An Archival quote by G H Corsan criticizes post dinner and radio speakers who praise themselves and call for humility. He laments America's loss of artistic taste, claiming the continent has become an unattractive place.
First use of the phrase once in a blue moon
The expression originated in England in 1528 in Roy and Barlow's Rede Me and be not Rothe to designate something that will never happen. Brewer notes that on December 10 1888 a blue moon occurred during a mild winter, and the phrase now means very seldom.

Old suburb house judged by humble critics
Real Fun Wealth is not with this old vale of tears and laughter, or anywhere else so far as we know, and it often seems to us that the people who build the grand new house in the fashionable suburb don't get nearly as much fun out of it as their humble friends, who criticize it from turret to foundation stone, from stem to gadgeon and in all its ramifications, and in all its ramifications.
