Rhode sells broom shop assets to Landis in rear of Hititz store
J C Rhode sold the goodwill and fixtures of his broom making business behind the Hititz cigar store to H Reist Landis who will run it in the future. Rhode plans to move to Florida in September to work on an orange grove near Braidentown. A heavy rain storm struck the area Monday morning with thunder and lightning. A bolt hit a telephone pole in the Spruce Street alley, splitting it nearly in half though no wires were attached.

Seven-Year-Old Grace Rudy Breaks Arm in Fall

Blackberry Records Smash At Speedwell Farms Pick
Last week 77 quarts were picked on David Frederick's farm near Speedwell farms in Elizabeth township. This week 875 quarts were gathered over Monday and Tuesday at the same site with Mrs Sallie Kofroth named champion picker at 100 quarts in under a day.

Sugar peas 8 to 10 cents a box, raspberries 10 cents a box, early apples and pears available, cabbage and squashes abundant with 5 to 10 cent range, new potatoes 20 cents per half peck, butter 26 cents per pound, eggs 18 cents per dozen.

A severe hail storm hit the northern county Friday with hail stones remaining unmelted by Sunday. Residents near Shoeneck used hail to freeze ice cream on Sunday, gathering bucketfuls of ice that remained.

Death of William Engle at Warwick home
William Engle died at his Warwick home on Saturday at 10 30 P M after an illness begun in January 1910. He was 54 years 9 months and 23 days old. A Hopeland native and farmer, he also served as rural mail carrier from Brickerville to Lititz and from Gray to Ephrata for four years each. He lived in Warwick the past year and belonged to St. John s Lutheran Brickerville and the P D B of A of Lincoln. Surviving are his wife a sixteen year old adopted son two brothers Michael Engle of Warwick John Engle of Leba non a stepsister Mary Cooper and a step brother Christ Engle. Funeral was at the Mennonite church Warwick with interment Brickerville cemetery Rev J W Bittner officiating.

Ephrata Union Picnic Draws Hundreds In Town
Seven Sunday schools of Ephrata held a union picnic attracting about 900 people from Cloister town. Visitors arrived by a special train of fifteen coaches and enjoyed music by the M S A band. A morning baseball game saw the lean men win, followed by a ladies ninth in the afternoon. The group returned home on the 6 30 P M train after an enjoyable day.
