A chart by Lieut. O L Duffy shows Greene county receiving 1 285 000 annually from the U S Naval Ammunition Depot at Crane. Nearby counties report civilian payrolls ranging from 59 000 to 3 200 000 with total civilian payroll near 6 000 000. military personnel payroll adds 285 288 annually.
The Thursday evening meet ing of the Linton Salvation Army is canceled due to redecorating work at the chapel. The rest of this week's meetings will be held as scheduled.

James H Moody 75 lifelong Linton resident and former teamster died at 3 10 PM Tuesday in Freeman Greene county hospital after a four day illness. He was born August 4 1871 in Greene county and was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church. Survived by wife Ida May Moody four daughters three sons 35 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral at 2 30 PM Thursday at United Brethren church Burris Chapel cemetery burial. Body sent to Newkirk Funeral home Pleasantville and returned to 809 er street northeast.
Mayor Frank Hague announced his retirement from the Jersey City mayoralty on June 17, marking 34 years in public office. He will remain a city county and state Democratic leader and will keep his post as vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee. His nephew Frank Hague Eggers will act as mayor starting June 17.

P. F. Hein former Indiana state treasurer died of a heart ailment in a Hammond hospital at age 75. He served as treasurer from 1935 to 1939 after winning the 1932 election on the Democratic ticket and previously chaired the State Unemployment Commission from 1933 to 1935. Hein was cashier and a director at the Commercial Bank of Crown Point.
In Terre Haute on June 4 a charge of operating an automobile under the influence of liquor against Donald Wolfe 21 of Dugger will be heard June 10 in City Judge Herbert R Criss court. Four Wolfe companions from Sullivan were fined $5 each on guilty pleas to public intoxication.
Scotland Yard reports Britons received mysterious explosive powder by mail from Italy in what may be an international subversive plot. Among recipients named by The Evening Standard are Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery and Sir Stafford Cripps. Authorities warn recipients to surrender any similar envelopes and describe the device as akin to a cracker.
White river crest reached 23.60 feet around 11 this morning at Elliston. Observer O H Brown of the U S Weather Bureau reports the river fell three inches after 4 PM Tuesday then rose seven inches to 23.53. By 2 PM it stood at 23.50 and is said to be falling toward Indianapolis amid uncertain forecasts of showers or cloudy warmer conditions with no rain expected.
Fort Wayne police said a trolley car operator fearing a death found a girl slumped at the end of the line. An ambulance was summoned to the morgue but she revived, saying she had a yawn and a case of spring fever.

Mrs Olive Green of Worthington ton welcomed a boy named Joseph Byron by cesarean today. Mrs Wanda Gorby of Hymera bore a girl Victoria Lynn. Mrs Mildred Thomas of Linton had a daughter. Miss Norma Neff of Newberry and Mrs Esther Page of Linton underwent major and medical procedures respectively. Larry Teague’s infant son was moved to Riley hospital Indianapolis yesterday. Several patients were admitted or discharged, including Paul Correll and Norma Eugene Ham.
Walter Tindall 85 died from a bullet wound in Vincennes hospital after a pistol was found near his unconscious body in the basement of his home. His daughter said he despondent over poor health and feared finding another home after selling his house.
Funeral services for Frank Squires 59 who died Monday night at the home of his son Gale Squires in Niles Ohio will be at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the M J Aikin and Son Funeral home. Rev Powell Forbes will officiate and burial will be in Fairview cemetery.

In Washington on June 4, Dr. Henry M. Garsson testified that former Congressman Andrew J. May had nothing to do with obtaining wartime contracts for the Garsson munitions combine. He stated the firms earned about 70 million dollars in war contracts and that May did not participate in contracts for Erie Basin or Batavia, asserting most deals came from his own design work.
Army engineers are constructing about 15 miles of earth filled dams and levees northeast of Fresno in the Dry Creek Basin to prevent future floods. The main dam will span about 200 feet and rise up to 46 feet, built strictly for flood control with no irrigation or power features.
