River Recovers After Prolonged Flood
The river fell rapidly from Saturday through Sunday and is now within its banks. Standing water remains in flat areas especially on Sunshine peninsula. Flood altered the river course, enlarging the bar at Tenth street and cutting land near Myrick. Across the river the water cut back 100 feet into Tilton Davis’s farm. Though not the greatest, this flood was the longest on record, ruining crops in Lafayette and Ray counties but leaving rich soil for a late crop. Mrs. Gill Goodwin of Marshall arrived Friday to visit J. F. Winn’s family as Inez and Ida Belle Walker returned from Kansas City Sunday.
