At the court house in Thurglay night candidates Henry Stapel of Rock Port for governor John Knott of Hannibal for railroad and warehouse commissioner and A J Simmons of Clarence for lieutenant governor spoke amid a crowd drawn by hot weather moving pie shows and a late ad hoc start Judge Walker introduced speakers with Stapel praised by J W McCleery while Knott and Simmons outlined views on prohibition the lieutenant governor post and railroad issues. local notices and community updates followed including trains, visits, epidemics of weather and revival plans.

Miss Mary Hoge left Thursday evening for a trip to Kansas City and Leavenworth. Mrs. J. Cowle, visiting in Slater, returned home Thursday evening. Willa Bear went to Tipton yesterday to visit relatives for a few days. Eugenia Ardinger returned yesterday from Louisiana Mo. Afle Marquis came home Thursday from Brownwood Texas. Mr. and Mrs. B. O. Cranston and son Robert of Monroe City arrived Thursday to visit Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Allen. Hattie Gordon returned Thursday from a visit to Mt. Beott. EB C Gordon Jr. accompanied her home for a visit. Mrs. J. B. Potts and Mrs. J. Q. Conway left yesterday for an extended trip to Colorado and the West. Misses Josephine Lippencott and Downey of Philadelphia are visiting Miss Jean Brightwell who left yesterday for Colorado with them to Kavese Oly.

Hagenbeck and Wallace Circus to Visit City in August

Fred Wagner of Hagenbeck and Wallace announces the combined show will tour the city in August. The big circus is advertised as a major attraction expected to draw large crowds, with Lexington residents eager for a new circus experience after years without one. The Hagenbeck and Wallace troupe is billed as among the largest traveling circuses and a guaranteed standout event.

Village hayride ends with fruit basket at stop near Lovers Lane

A group of youths resumed a hayride on Wednesday evening after a Monday setback. They traveled through countryside amid meadows and wheatfields, singing joyfully. A farmhouse on Lovers Lane was awakened when the party stopped to share a large fruit basket before returning to town at 1:00.

Wandering band of highwaymen threaten peaceful town game

A rough bunch from around Kansas City rode into the town on Thursday with violent intent but were met by a posse of Elks. After a tense contest a baseball game saw Brockman strike out 17 and Meyer provide key plays as the Elks defeated the Bentons. Major B A Hickman umpired and kept order amid the fierce play and errors on both sides.

Death of Mrs Tracy Weible in city home

Mrs Tracy Weible died Wednesday at 5 pm at the home of her daughter Mrs Eli King on 2ird street of a complication of diseases. She was 9 years old and born in Germany in 1639. Survived by four children Henry Jefferson City Louis Mrs Eli King and Mrs Jessie Jacques. Funeral from Mrs King’s home yesterday at 9 o'clock conducted by Rev R B Briney. Burial in Machpelah.

Senator Stone Campaign Opens in Marshall amid Cheers

A large crowd welcomed Senator William J. Stone as he launched his bid for re election to the U S Senate in Marshall. Special trains from Jefferson City Mexico Boonville and Lexington brought hundreds. attendance estimated around 3 500 amid bands and picnic style crowds. Stone spoke for a time and left exhausted after a warm day of politicking and public reception.
