Waverly 100 Saloon Licences Denied After Court Hearing

Crowds from Waverly gather in Lexington as County Court rejects dram shop license renewals for two saloons for lacking sufficient petition names. Remonstrators and supporters clash in mood but the court proceeds, granting no licenses for at least a month. A separate Catholic confirmation service is held in Lexington with Bishop Lillis presiding.

Merchants Defeat The Commercial Club In Close Game

The Merchants finally beat The Commercial Club 5 to 4 after a hard fought battle. J Patterson batted in the Merchants' only run of the seventh inning while The Commercial Club fought bravely on offense. Several local residents and families, including Mrs. L Morris and Merle Bellamy, were noted as leaving town for short trips and visits in nearby cities during the week.

Prominent Lexington Man Orlando Bradley Killed by Lightning

Orlando Rufus Bradley, a leading farmer and stock raiser near Lexington, was killed by a lightning strike while covering a hay-stake on his property eight miles southeast of town. He was 24, having been born July 2, with a large family and local roles in the Elks, W omen of the World, and Prairie Presbyterian church. His funeral was held at his home.

Union worship and youth meetings planned by local churches

The Baptist, Christian, Methodist and Presbyterian churches will hold union evening services on Sundays in July and August with a youth meeting in the hosting church. Eman On club hosted by Anna Ruehel on West Main Street held a Fourth of July themed party Thursday evening. Decorations featured red white and blue bunting with small flags as forty guests enjoyed games and music in a friendly home gathering.
