A Wenatchee World writer visits Leavenworth finds optimism for a busy season. Lumber plants run near capacity. housing shortfalls spur cottages and new hotel additions. new bank and garage, school auditorium, and improved dairying and real estate activity mark forward momentum.
Fruit growers in Chelan Okanogan Douglas and Grant Counties face nearly 2 million dollars more for boxes and supplies in 1920 than 1919. Prices for spruce boxes run 28 cents and pine 30 cents with hemlock about a cent less, double last year. Wrapping paper may cost 16 cents per pound doubling last year, threatening unwrapped fruit shipments. Nails cost 3.25 to 4 dollars base with variable pricing potentially driving up total costs to nearly 4 million dollars if crop holds.
Mrs T F Paine and daughters visited relatives in Cashmere Tuesday. A county school track meet is planned for Wenatchee May 7. Clarence Campbell and George Wheeler were Cashmere visitors Tuesday.
