Dust Settler and Uneven Rainfall Mark Growing Season
The article notes a variable growing season with the northern High Plains and Corn Belt faring better than drought-stricken southwest. April through October rainfall in South Dakota and Minnesota exceeds normals by four to eight inches, turning western South Dakota into a garden while wet areas get wetter and dry areas dry. Huron, S D reports 3.91 inches from April 1 to Oct 1 last year, the driest on record, but nearly twenty inches so far this year. Baltimore preachers claim heat waves stem from the death of the Devil, sparking conversions among crowds of whites and blacks.
