Liquor store robbery charge against Andresen and companions

Lloyd Andresen of Le Mars was picked up by Sioux City police to face robbery charges after he and three unidentified youths allegedly staged a liquor store raid. The four entered the store between 5 and 6 pm, demanded liquor, manhandled the proprietor, and fled toward Sioux City. Union County sheriff says all four will be charged with robbery by force.

Sidewalks Court House Repair by Lubben Crew

The badly cracked sidewalks around the court house are being repaired or replaced by Henry Lubben and his crew. Winter water and ice froze and cracked surfaces making them hazardous. salt worsened the damage. New portions use an extra percent mixture and rough finish for secure footing. Local Fines Set for Driving Violations and Permit Offense

Mayor R J M Long assessed fines this week to Gerald Groethen and his father Gerhard Groethen for driving without a license and for permitting an unauthorized driver. Wm Mansfield of Sioux City paid 17.50 for speeding and 10 for detective fights. Tom and Larry Feller, brothers, each fined 12.50. Soldiers Wid in Chi has the largest seating capacity of any stadium in America.

LeMars Women Plan Guest Night at High School

The Business and Professional Women of Le Mars invite career girls to a September 15 guest night in the Le Mars High School activities room with Vincent Buss as speaker and a talk on his round the world trip with pictures. Nearby visits include the Jacobs family from Bemidji and Thunhorst Hempaill guests from Worthington. Host Schools Begin Grass Roots Farm Inquiry for Agriculture

About 104 township representatives met at the grounds for host training to gather farmer opinions on government agricultural policy. Rural youth talk on investment and farming prosperity

Claud de St. Pacer of the Iowa Farm Bureau urged Rural Youth Organization members to view investment as essential for any venture. He outlined a ten point program for agricultural prosperity at the Shelter House park meeting. After the program, the group enjoyed games and refreshments. Le Mars Gives Hero Welcome to Sgt Gordon Schmitz

Le Mars greeted Staff Sgt. Gordon M. Schmitz with a hero’s welcome on Tuesday night. Capt. AL Rolfes brought him from Sioux City to the weighing station on Highway 75 at 7 p.m. where a dealer of local officials and American Legion members lined the route. Mayor H. J. M. Long delivered the welcome address as Commander Art Kellen of Walmer Post presented a life membership, in a event denoting the town’s pride in his return from service. Schmitz requested publication of his gratitude to American Legion members and Le Mars for the homecoming, praising the city and its people.

Carl Schelin Unveils New Two Bath Dry Cleaning System

Carl G Schelin owner of Model Cleaners began operation of a two bath dry cleaning system built in Manitowoc Wisconsin by an engineering firm known for submarines ships and refrigeration. The continuous process uses perchloroethylene solvent with soil removing additives to reduce soap residues and odors. Open house is planned soon for public demonstration of the modern system.

Second Victim Is Dead After Highway 75 Crash

Charles Capron, 31, former Sioux City policeman, died at St Josephs hospital Sioux City from injuries after the August 26 crash on Highway 75 north of Leeds Plymouth county. Darrell Rosemeyer died from a brain hemorrhage after being thrown from the car. Capron had filed a $145000 suit against Rosemeyers estate for pain, medical care, lost earnings and disability. The report notes Capron was hospitalized with a severed spinal cord and thrown from the 1953 Pontiac. Also mentioned is a trip by Rev and Mrs L L Belk and two daughters to Northfield Minnesota for college enrollment details.

Elevator Burglary at Farmers' Grain Co

Plymouth County reports second quarter sales tax trend up while a small burglary at Farmers' Grain Co. brings a roughly $2.50 loss from two young boys who opened an office window and took about 250 pennies from a vending machine. Gus Gilmore, the proprietor, notified police. the boys admitted the theft and said they spent the money.

Dianne Hoffman Recovers After Polio Symptoms

Dianne Hoffman five year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Francis Hoffman of North Lynn Drive in Le Mans is recovering at home from polio symptoms. She developed headache nausea and stiff neck Friday morning and was taken to Sacred Heart hospital for spinal tests which showed no polio. By Saturday she improved and was sent home under her mother care though not yet allowed to sit up.Her family includes Mr and Mrs Robert Lake Jr and daughter Mary of Sioux City who visited. A rummage and bake sale supported by the Ladies of St Peter’s was planned for Friday and Saturday. David Hentges left for Chicago to join Glidden Company. Mrs Joe Rules was notified of the death of Minnie Fitch aged 92 of Spirit Lake, a long time Spirit Lake resident and charter Eastern Star member. The funeral was set for Spirit Lake with Ruba attending.

Westheld reports list St Joseph Church as beneficiary of one third of Mrs Mary Eilenbecker estate. In Danbury Sunday the Toben and Remnst homes hosted visitors including Fred Meiny family Ervin Smid and Knecht families.
