They fled toward Le Mars after a pursuit on the Carley hill, where Langeli wrecked his pickup in a ditch while attempting to avoid a stranded car. A single dead chicken found in a pasture hints at the incident, and one thief dropped a clue enabling identification. Sheriff Scheler withheld details pending investigation.

Trucker Encounters Hanging Dummy Under Minnesota Viaduct
Brnce Van't Hul, a Sioux Center trucker, drove under a viaduct near Austin Minnesota when a dummy hanging from a noose appeared above the highway. The wind shattered his windshield as the dummy fell, and a following motorist later struck the dummy on the road. Damages totaled about 75 dollars. Van't Hul notified the county sheriff.

Two Deaths For Barlage Family
Two deaths in one family within five days shock Belle Plaine and Farmington communities. Raymond Bachige, 49, died after heart attack at his son’s Farmington home days after his mother Paulina Barlage, 80, died following long illness. Raymond, born in Belle Plaine in 1904, worked 66 years in bridge construction before farming near Lakeville, then Farmington. He is survived by his wife Helma Melby and son Robert in the army. Funeral was held at Lakeville Catholic church. Mrs. Paulina Barlage, nee Intel, born in Germany, immigrated as a child, married Henry Barlage of Belle Plaine. Survived by three sons Leo, LeRoy, Henry. three daughters Edna Speiker, Clara Holt, Myrile Seickert. and many grandchildren and stepchildren. Funeral held in Farmington Catholic church. Four way stop signs were installed Friday in Le Mars. Early drivers ignored them, especially local trucks, but by Sunday compliance improved and traffic flowed more smoothly. Tourists stopped promptly, learning of the changes. The signs reduced through traffic speed and aided east west motorists.

A collision on the highway near the Lyte Stephens farm west of Le Mars Friday night caused about 200 dollars in damage to a Brunsville resident Francis Miller car. The other driver allegedly fled the scene. George Addon and patrolmen questioned George Newman in Seawarden. Newman denied involvement and was charged with parking on the highway and leaving the scene. He posted a 100 bond in mayor's court.
