The Le Mars public schools opened for the 1953 54 year with 1073 pupils. Kindergartners increased to 128 while rural tuition and kindergarten enrollments boosted totals. The new six period day at junior and senior high replaces mass study halls, courtasing more study time and after school activities.

Suit Filed Over Auto and Tractor Repair Charge
John Rity doing business as Ritz Super Service Station filed suit against Frank Nacke Jr in Plymouth County District Court. The plaintiff says services were provided for the defendant at his request to repair his automobile and tractor. The account allegedly remains unpaid at 156 dollars. Joseph Waller Rites Held For 64 Year Old Farmer
Funeral services for Joseph Waller, age 64, were set for 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church south of Marcus. Burial followed at Amherst cemetery with Nelson Funeral Home in charge. Waller was killed Tuesday when his tractor overturned on a road near the Fielding store. Born October 6, 1888, in Tikien township, he lived there all his life. Survivors include his widow, three sons Aaron and Max of Marcus and Roderick of Quimby, a daughter Frances Christian of Quimby, and two sisters Aden Richardson of Geddes S. D. and Elizabeth Eberts.
