De Kalb Corn Plant Tour for Vocational Ag Students
Last Thursday 41 Vocational Ag and FEA boys toured the De Kalb corn plant at Storm Lake by bus. Paul Fint manager greeted them as guides showed the facility. About 6,000 acres are contracted with farmers for seed corn, with farmers doing most work except detassling and harvest. The plant employs around 70 during peak season. 10,000 bushels of corn arrive daily. Corn moves through sorting and drying bins, with moisture content 22 to 30 percent, then into dry ing bins and test processes as beats push air and heat through the system.
