Printed Checks Forgery Suspect Sentenced in Iowa Case

A resourceful forger, Willam Sorensen, 39, of Storm Lake and Newell Iowa, is jailed awaiting transfer to the state penitentiary after a 16 year sentence for passing forged company checks. He cashed about 381.00 in seven checks on Booth Olson Construction Co. and was arrested in Le Mars after a store clerk noticed suspicious purchases and a check proves machine was found in his possession.

Three Car Collision at LeMar Park on Highway 75

A three car crash occurred Saturday night at the ball park along Highway 75 in Le Mars. No serious damage was reported to the vehicles owned by Richard L. Pennfield, W. Strause, and Ray Lownsberry.

Leinen Moritz St Michaels Catholic church wedding set in Kingsley

Leinen Moritz St Michaels Catholic church in Kingsley set the scene for a fall wedding on Thursday October 14 at 1 o clock. Mrs Joan Leinen daughter of Kay and Mrs Kay Leinen became the bride of George Moritz Jr son of Mr and Mrs George Moritz Sr both families from south of Kelptn. The ceremony was performed by Rev Father Henry Ay Janse. The bride wore a white wedding gown with fingertip veil and pearls. Man of honor was her sister Norma Leinen with brides maid Shirley Barthole. Groom’s cousin Donald Montz and brother Bob Leinen were attendants. A reception for 120 followed at St Michaels hall in blue and rose decor. The couple will reside on a farm south of Remsen after a short wedding trip.

The Washington Workers 4-H club met at Sharon Jensen’s home on October 4. 11 members attended, electing June Gable as president, Elizabeth Tone as vice president and historian, Patsy Donel as secretary, Carol Gronemeier as treasurer, and Donna Petersen as reporter. Miss Agnes Gear Weds James Thelen At St James Le Mars

Miss Agnes Gear and James Thelen wed in a simple 9 am ceremony at St James Catholic church Le Mars with Father William J Baxter officiating. Attendants included Cecelia Hutton and Marvin Theich. Le Mars Social Items Report Club Activities

Le Mars Women and various clubs held dinners meetings and events across the town. Clubs included the Women’s Club at Cora’s with 32 places, the Bridge club with contract games after lunch, and the Nine club with luncheon and contract. Guest artists and speakers were planned for October and guests traveled from Brunswick and Chicago to visit local families.

World Community Day Planned by Le Mars Church Women

Le Mars Council of Church Women meeting at the city library outlined World Community Day activities to be observed Friday. Mon W L Downing will lead the service at the Methodist church with Dr August Marin as guest speaker. The theme is Let the Children Come to Me. Clothing for Peace collection will accept new or used clothing for children aged 1 to 6, along with other items and donations to be sent to St Louis for distribution locally and abroad.

Tuberculosis research pledge boosts regional support

The Plymouth County Tuberculosis and Health Association gave $175 to national tuberculosis research, joining 3,000 associations pooling funds from Christmas Seals. Since 1947 Iowa county groups have contributed about $75,000, aiding research on disease understanding and treatments.

Doctor's Care Reports Farm Accident Involving John Puctz

John Puctz, a patient at Sacred Heart hospital, suffered a compound fracture of the left arm after his hand and arm were entangled in a machine at a corn elevator while working with his sons. Skim has been stuffed on the hand and he is improving. Joe Zimmer of Le Mars underwent surgery at the Lanemia hospital Thursday. he is expected to stay several days longer as pain eases. A daughter weighing seven ounces was born to Mr and Mrs Stanley Jacobs of Akron at Akron Community hospital Monday October 18. the former Le Joyce Johnson is the mother. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Gert Jacobs of Akron.

Gilmore Plans Rebuilding Elevator After Fire

Gail Gilmore owner of the Farner Grain Co. says preliminary planning is complete and rebuilding the structure after Thursday morning fire is likely. Fire crews contained the blaze and no other facilities were damaged as bins continued to smolder with 405 beans in them. flames leapt and fell, but units from Le Mars and Remsen prevented spread to lumber and installations.
