Inferno at Farmers' Grain elevator wipes old structure

A fire sparked by dust under a corn rolling machine destroyed the 80 foot high Farmers' Grain Co elevator within about thirty minutes. Firemen halted spread to nearby buildings and tanks. a grain storage building remained undamaged. Winds pushed heat southeast away from Moore Lumber Co tracks. Robert Chapman plans to leave for California after visiting his parents.

4-H Girls Set Achievement Day in Le Mars

Plymouth county 4-H clubs plan an achievement banquet at Exgres club Le Mars at 6 30 p m Monday October 18 with awards to 10 outstanding 4-H girls and clubs. County Education Council Meets in Le Mars High School

The Plymouth county council of education met at 3 p m Tuesday in the Le Mars high school vocational building with delegates in attendance from nearly all schools. Dr Carl Lang of Westmar College presided and reported on the Iowa state education association county officers conference. Miss Emily A Beaumont reviewed proposed school legislation and materials were distributed to officers and chairmen. The teacher appreciation campaign for funds to buy the Salisbury house SEA home in Des Moines was presented by the Plymouth county campaign chairmen. Coffee and doughnuts accompanied the adjournment.

Granville resident Mike A Goergen died when his car overturned into a ditch three miles northeast of Granville on October 12, 1954. He was born October 12, 1876, near Granville. Eight Plymouth county youths faced malicious mischief charges after a disturbance at the Traveller club and Red Star malt house near Remsen. Six remain free on $1000 bonds. three others had charges reduced or sealed.
