Brockman Chosen to Fill Kalosh Vacancies at Le Mars
The Le Mars school board at a special meeting elected Lowell Brockman of Le Mars to fill gaps created by June resignations in science and athletics, replacing Mike Kalosh Jr. Brockman will teach high school history and chemistry and coach varsity basketball and B-squad football. Vernon R. Broberg of Wayne Nebraska was named to the junior high industrial arts post caused by Earl Hammond’s resignation.

Walter J. Fozz Robinson, former Westmar college head basketball coach, will coach at Drake University in Des Moines this fall as freshman football and basketball coach and head baseball coach. Duane Wilson confirms Drake offered the position after earlier Wayne State Teachers interest proved a misunderstanding. Wilson notes Wayne had sought a catch, but Drake prevailed.

Community weddings and gatherings fill July social calendar
Breton and Elgersma kin celebrated at Seattle tied nuptials with gifts and a two course lunch at city hall. Miss Rigena Wells visited from Wisconsin Dells after a grandparents’ gathering. Friendship Circle hosted a July birthday picnic in Freshon City Park honoring Mrs. Dykstra Sr. Mrs. White and Miss Schipper, with many neighbors in attendance. A neighborhood birthday repast followed at Mrs Mars’s home as needlework and socializing continued. Snakes in west Ireton gardens alarm residents, though harmless. one man killed ten in ten days. Mrs. T Hollander, 82, died at Rock Valley, with services in Hull and interment at Hill Cemetery.

Mrs Mary Winkelman Rites Held At Paullina
Mrs Mary Winkelman of Paullina died recently and funeral services were held Friday July 5 at the Funeral Home in Sanborn with Rev R L Middants officiating. Born September 26 1873 in Belle Plaine she married Peter Winkelman March 10 1893 and lived near Larchwood before moving to North Dakota in 1901. The couple moved to Paullina in 1955. Mr Winkelman died in 1956. Survived by three daughters Mrs Ralph Bennington Mrs Rex Barnes and Frances Winkelman of Paullina, two sons Arthur Winkelman of North Dakota and Roy Winkelman of Irerton, 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Interment in Paullina Cemetery.

Funeral services are planned for Emmett A. Nurnberg 73 a longtime area printer and weekly newspaper publisher who died unexpectedly on Sunday July 7 at Memorial hospital in Hinton. He had long served the local press and publishing community and was known for his work in the region. Memorial arrangements are pending.

Hinton Progress founder remembered in brief notice
A local obituary notes the founder of the Hinton Progress in 1926 who operated several newspapers including Pierson Progress and The Leeds Sun. A musician in youth, he played with the South Dakota State band at the St. Louis World’s Fair. Survivors include daughter Letha Bundy, son Robert of Hinton, sisters Mrs. Larson, Mrs. Mac Thompson, Mrs. Louis Peterson, brother Richard, and two grandchildren Bobby and Kathleen.
