Mystery Fire Destroys Seney Grain Elevator
A fire of unknown origin destroyed the Seney Grain elevator owned by J. J. Kileas and P. J. and M. L. Kitleas after 4:00 am. A McKee Motor Transport trucker discovered the blaze and alerted Le Mars firemen. The fire collapsed the wooden structure. nearby bins and feed building were heavily damaged. About 60,000 bushels of government corn and 15,000 bushels of oats and corn in storage were affected. Officials estimate total loss including machinery and seed, with government inspectors to assess further. Firefighters from Le Mars, aided by water hauled from a Floyd River arm, fought the blaze as residents watched.

Mrs Doretta Westhoff Kruse of Plymouth County Dies
Doretta Elizabeth Westhoff Kruse, 46, longtime Plymouth County resident, died July 18 1957 at her rural Le Mars home after a prolonged illness. Born August 28 1910 in Grant Township she married Claus Kruse November 2 1934 at the family farm. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery after services at St John American Lutheran Preston Township with Rev Henry Dirks officiating. Survivors include husband daughter Dorothy Ann Kruse at home mother Mrs Gratie Westhoff brother Dick Westhoff and sister Mrs Emma Popken, all of Le Mars. She was a member of St John’s Church and its organizations.

Shirley wore chantilly lace and nylon satin gown with fitted bodice long sleeves lace applique trimmed neckline and a bouffant skirt She carried a pink rose bouquet. Attendants wore pink-toned gowns while flower girl Pamela Kay McDougall and ring bearer Kent Kilstrom participated. A reception followed in the church parlors with a three tier cake in pink and white The bride will teach at Union Consolidated School. groom-to-be is a Le Mars high school graduate and Westmar College senior.
