Guardsmen answered questions about National Guard equipment valued around $200,000. Nineteen youths signed up for training while staying with friends in the Guard. Four men joined during Monday night drill and two more enlisted since. Twenty-two recruits were sworn in by Lt. Orville Livermore, boosting Co. K to over 25 members. New Co. Walter Williams 69 of Hawarden died Tuesday in a hospital after a long illness. Born March 25, 1886 near Hawarden, he was a veteran of Wood Watt and was not married. Survivors include none, Mrs. Lana Benson of Hawarden, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services set for 2 p m Friday at Barnard funeral home with Rev. C Thorns officiating. Burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Treton.
