The text describes the Spanish conquest as a brutal liquidation of native civilizations. It claims vast massacres, city ruin, burning of art and literature, cathedral building with slave labor, and decades of screams and groans as conquistadors drained gold and silver from a once magnificent empire.

The Ply mouth Peppers 4 H Club held its final meeting at the Rees home on August Sth. Members recited the 4 H pledge and discussed fair plans. Norma Hoffman and Ardythe Rees demonstrated lamp shade recovering and decorating. Two new members Margardt Schultz and Esther Schultz joined. The afternoon featured lunch, project tips, and thanks to mothers and guests for attending. Mrs Clark Tindall served as judge. Conne Lindgren contributed as reporter.
The Merril Record pauses publication for several weeks as editor takes a vacation and a substitute will cover duties. Readers are asked to mail stems and profits to The Globe Post during the interim while service is suspended. Cooperation from readers is appreciated and normal operation will resume later.
Rotary guest G Evans area engineer in charge of Fort Randall and Gavin Point projects spoke at Le Mars Rotary on August 3. He said six more units will be added to Fort Randall by 1955 and the project is about 85 percent complete. Power from the dam is mainly sold in South Dakota to the mill.
Evans spoke to the Rapid City Rotary about public recreational facilities around Fort Randall and preservation efforts at the Fort Randall mission in Preston. Slides illustrated stages in the dam development and related work in the eastern part of the state.
Le Mars FFA dairy judging team Bull Ross Virgil Hale Weg Cleo Laughton and Larry Farmer competed at the Southwest Iowa Holstein Show in Spencer last Thursday. They scored 20 points from a misread total 600 to place 12th in a field of 23 FFA teams and 84 4-H teams from northwest Iowa. Newell team won with 158 points Cleo Taughton had the third highest individual score among F F A boys with 193 points of 200.
Shaw McDermon Co and banks request full certified copies of proceedings proving bond validity for attorney review. Bonds to be delivered to Le Mars Iowa. auditors and bank officials named. Mr Ludwig listed as county auditor with Moritz as chairman.
The county board of supervisors will act on August 23 to issue bonds valued at 1618502510 to cover emergency bridge warrants issued after last spring's flood. Des Moines firm Shaw MfecDerman and Company sued the county on behalf of warrant holders, along with two Le Mars banks and others. The action is a legal requirement and a notice to taxpayers invites objections. on August 23, five or more taxpayers may file a petition with the county auditor outlining any opposition.
Le Mars Iowa Board of Supervisors in an adjourned May 10 1954 session approves contracts with Western Engineering Co for Project T 454 T 354 and T GH and with Iowa Public Service Co for county gas. It authorizes financing emergency warrants through Shaw MacDermott & Co Des Moines and outlines a plan to issue Funding Bonds at par to redeem warrants or judgments with 2 1 2 percent interest and up to 10 years maturity.

Frank Patterson’s attendance at an Evangelism conference. Job ad seeks a cook for a five day week with good pay via Box 343 Le Mars. Mrs Emma Sampson plans to attend East coast markets.
