Kansas lawmakers brace for court ruling on school funding plan
House Minority Leader Jim Ward and Rep. Melissa Rooker weigh chances as justices review the latest Kansas school funding bill. Attorneys diverge on the amount added, with plaintiffs citing 368 million from this year and 485 million from last year, while the state argues total exceeds 1 billion when combined with local option budgets. Disputes include KPERS funds, cost analyses, and whether the plan meets education outcomes. If the court finds inadequacy, a special session or constitutional amendment debate could resume.
