Girod Sees Out-of-State Enrollment as KU Lifeline
University of Kansas Chancellor Douglas Girod notes that about 40 percent of KU students come from outside Kansas and says out-of-state enrollment is a vital part of funding rising costs. He says growth beyond state lines is essential due to stagnant Kansas population and uncertain local tuition revenue. High court to hear Kansas school funding case this week
Kansas Supreme Court justices will hear arguments Tuesday from the state and four school districts on whether current funding meets constitutional requirements for adequacy and equity. The court warned in October it must have a compliant system by June 30 or risk halting public school funding. The case centers on a phased in 522 million dollar increase over five years amid looming August 7 primaries.
