In Treatment At Watkins For Use of Heroin
Three persons remain in treatment for heroin addiction at Kansas University's Watkins Hospital. Dr. Raymond Schwegler notes two to three others have left the program for other communities. He says no Vietnam veteran or EU student has sought treatment. The program uses methadone to substitute for heroin in a process easier to break, with treatment available to those who seek it and a small charge for nonstudents.

Village Church Joins Protests Over Davis Defense Fund
The 5,000 member Village United Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village joins other Presbyterian bodies in objecting to a $10,000 contribution to the Angela Davis defense fund by the church national council. A Sunday statement says the emergency legal aid fund should not fund celebrated causes lacking need.

Millward Howell 59 Dies at Lawrence Memorial Hospital
Millward Howell of Rt 1 Lawrence died this morning at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after four years in the area. He leaves Thelma and son Craig at home Patti Pickett in Goodard and two grandchildren. Survivors include his sister Mrs Beulah Basett of Samaritan Lodge and brothers Dale Shawnee Mission and Edward Ankeny Iowa. Funeral services and burial in Hoisington with body lying in state until 9 pm Tuesday at Rumsey Funeral Home. He belonged to Jayhawk Kiwanis Club and First Christian Church Hoisington.

Funeral services for Mrs Meta E Moon 88 of 778 Grant are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Warren Mortuary with Pastor Harold Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. She died this morning at Joplin Nursing Home in McLouth. She was a member of North Lawrence Christian Church. Survived by daughter Mrs Violet Walker and three sons Carleton Chester and Jack, plus six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Ruth N Chandler 86 of 1304 Fairlane died early today at Lawrence Manor Rest Home. Services at 10:30 a.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church officiated by Rev John Febble with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials to the church Organ Fund suggested. Survivors include her widower Herbert a KU emeritus professor, daughter Ruth M Harris Wak Keeney son John Holton eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Salvation Army Chiefs Leaving Lawrence for Minnesota Retirement
Brigadier and Mrs. Bert Locker, Lawrence Salvation Army commanding officers for two years, will retire at end of June and move to a retirement home in Northern Minnesota. They served 41 years as officers with 12 Minnesota North and South Dakota Nebraska Iowa Wisconsin Illinois appointments. Capt. and Mrs. Howard Chase of Kansas City will succeed them in Lawrence, arriving June 30 to reside at 2608 Belle Crest Drive.
