A 1-year-old youth escaped serious harm when a blowout on a wheat truck's right front tire sent a wheel rim fragment about 90 feet toward him in the 600 block of Massachusetts Street. Robby Windsor of Pawhuska Oklahoma was hospitalized briefly at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and released after a medical check showed no serious injuries. The truck from Hassel Institute swung into the Underwood Grain elevator as the youth walked south on the sidewalk near 605 Massachusetts Street during KU summer band camp.

State Architect Charles Marshall said the low base bid of 440,164 would be considered. A total of 300,000 is available. Basil Cireen Lawrence contractor was low bidder on the general contract with 346,200. Brune Bros. Lawrence were low bidders on plumbing, heating and wiring with 269,083 and 24,981 respectively. Marshall said the low base bid might be reduced to 295,010 using cheaper materials under alternate specs.

Schrader born in Festenberg Germany May 29 1891 grew up in Chicago and had a notable retail career in Chicago New York and St. Louis before settling in Lawrence in 1938. He is survived by his wife Georgia Wanda Schrader and a daughter Georgia Wanda, plus a brother and sister living out of state. He was active in Rotary, Elks, Scottish Rite Masonry and the local American Legion post.
