Strange Land Koreans Shift from White Robes to Western Style
HAL BOYLE writes from Korea where GIs find a land of stark bareness and durable Koreans who blend tradition with Western ideas. Folk wear white mourning robes long, now mixed with American hats and coats. Daily life features large families, modest homes, tea habits scarce, and long pipes. Religion blends nature worship Buddhism and Confucianism, with festivals in September.
