Washington July 10 the defense department asked for 20000 draftees at the earliest date to meet Army manpower needs. Maj. Gen. Hershey estimated 60 days to start delivering men once drafting begins and up to 300000 in 90 days if needed. He said drafts would begin with 25 year olds and proceed down the line. 19 to 25 inclusive can be drafted. He noted few eligible men remain in ages 25 and 24 due to wartime exemptions and as age 23 approaches the pool shrinks.
