Chester County farmers are urged to fertilize fall sown grains seeded down to grasses and legumes. Penn State research suggests drilling 400 pounds per acre of 0-20-20 plus 300 pounds per acre of 5-10-10 at drill time and applying 0-20-20 pre-planting to support next spring pasture production.
Harvey Chase Wood a noted poultry breeder was singled out for special honors at the 20th exposition of the Northeastern Poultry Producers Council. A bound volume of letters and mementos from more than a hundred friends was presented by James C Weisel Rosemont NJ.
For the first eight months of 1957 commercial red meat production totaled 16.855 billion pounds, down three percent from 1956. Beef fell one percent, veal two percent, pork eight percent, and mutton and lamb two percent. overall red meat output in August 1957 was one percent below July and three percent under August 1956.
