Martin letter sparks break with Governor Ansel over Rice appointment
The October 16 1907 correspondence reveals South Carolina State Superintendent of Education B F Martin denouncing Governor M F Ansel for appointing H F P Rice of Aiken to the State Board of Education. Martin vows not to seek re election and predicts a permanent rift, noting he will oppose Ansel as long as possible while calling Rice a controversial choice.
