Homecoming Day decorations contest crowned Sigma Tau Gamma and Beta Gamma as winners for the third consecutive year. Joe College and Joe Soldier Sailor and Marine led guards for winning houses while Engleman hall field designs featured Roosevelt Churchill Chiang Kai-Shek under blue and gold and Hitler under red and white. Announcement by Joe Hart at the Homecoming dance in Wills gym. Marilyn Soule crowned Homecoming Queen amid crowd of alumni and students. Over 2000 danced to Cal Dalton and his Cleveland orchestra with queen’s attendants and escorts.

Cossacks to Present tunes and Dances at University

University student council approves fall quarter budget allocations
The student council approved a fall quarter budget of 10771 for university student fee funds, to be sent to business manager O B Law. Receipts for the first quarter total about 10354 with 417 revenue from publications theater and athletics and a 10 percent reserve for emergencies. Various allocations include Kent Stater 1900 varsity athletics 2845 chestnut burr 826 and theater 465 while a 420 addition funds second year awards for athletics. Forty three petitions for freshman class officers nominated and preferential ballot planned. New social committee members named Carol Sayers Betty Gorlich Eloise Toops Kenny Rickard Bill Taylor.

Suitcase Students Face War Time Commuting Problems
University of Kent students face gas rationing tire shortages and transportation cuts as 93 women and 165 men travel from farms towns and cities. Bicycles are reserved for defense workers and many women commuters have dropped enrollment. Men plan to live in Kent longer as rationing rises.
