A new campus cafeteria in Lowry hall opens to the public with capacity for 230 diners. Off campus and dormitory students may eat there. Miss Ernes tine Williams, head dietician, outlines hours and job openings in her office.
Russ Gillis Sylvia Steiner Harold Brady and Roy Patterson were added to the Macbeth cast last Friday during rehearsal tryouts. Original cast members dropped out due to conflicting engagements. Cliff Hancock was named publicity chief for the play with Ma thilda Davis in charge of costumes Rick Uray handling sound and lights Wilbur Adams as stage manager.
Gym class spectators line the gym wall but must stay in the balcony per university regulations.
Dale Rowe announces a share-a-ride plan to help students reach the KSU Baldwin Wallace game next Saturday afternoon. Students with spare seats post their names and numbers opposite the men's mailboxes and riders contact them directly. Roy Apple seeks to charter a bus for additional transportation options.
Bill Thrasher, former chairman of the Independent Students' Association formed in 1945, was elected president Monday night to succeed Robert C. Baker who resigns before year’s end. New officers include Jim Harvey vice-president Truth Sumner social chairman George Kacarab political chairman Stanley Rogers publicity chairman. Holdovers Marion Lemponen secretary Anna Edwards treasurer.
Roy Newsome elected president of the Coalition party replacing Roy Apple who resigned. Representatives of groups in the coalition voted against merger with another campus party and laid plans for future elections. Other officers elected include Dorothy Baynes vice president Anne Demiter secretary and Bill Crory treasurer. Newsome rose as a campus political figure after managing the Sullivan for most popular man campaign last spring.
Gamma Tau Delta fraternity wins the annual Homecoming decoration trophy for the theme Welcome Back Alumni. Their display includes Murals of Kent KSU and a simulated football field with grandstand. Kappa Mu Kappa places second with Kent Memorial Stadium and a B 17 bomber. Judges were Robert E Morrow and Mrs George Bowman.
Merle V. Rentz of Trinity Lutheran church Kent will speak at the YMCA Thursday at 7 30 p m in room 219 Kent hall Cal Logan YMCA president says tickets for Friday hayride are on sale in the atrium at the association.
Student council and allocations committee plan a joint 4 p.m. meeting in Merrill Hall room 203 to resolve clashes over the student activity budget. Key figures include Prof E Turner Stump backing a smaller committee and Barbara McDowell supporting a new plan.
Freshman class photographs for the Chestnut Burr yearbook will be taken today and tomorrow on Merrill Hall front steps. Sessions run 10:45 to 11:00, 11:30 to 11:45, and 3:45 to 4:15 on both days. All upperclassmen should ensure freshmen report promptly.
Dr. L. H. Munzenmayer, director of appointments, says Red Cross needs workers for domestic and foreign service. Men 30 to 50 earn 300 dollars monthly for overseas hospital work while women receive 275. Recreation center duty requires ages 23 to 35 and hospital duty 24 to 45.
University debaters begin a pre season tour at Denison University on November 2 as Prof. James N Holm announces. A Friday meeting in room 315 Kent Hall covers the fall debate schedule with another session planned the following Tuesday.
Joan Ruth Grimmett 19 arrived from Essex to study journalism and language at KSU. She praised United States food abundance and New York City views after wartime Britain rationing, noting Americans seem less strained and recalling the German air blitz from her Detroit-born past.
