Kent Stater fall budget was cut by $650 at a joint allocations committee and student council meeting. The budget now allows only three issues weekly with $2,858.38 remaining. Funds shifted to art department and university theatre while social committee funding for Top Hop was defeated.
Berniece Looney Firestone swimming captain returns to KSU this fall with added titles and a goal to join 15 American swimmers at the 1947 London Olympics. The 19 year old, a four year All-American, trains under Harry Minto and leads in backstroke events while pursuing district state and national meets next spring toward Olympic selection.
The date bureau in the hall between Kent and Merrill is to be removed immediately per KSU business manager Emil Berg. Rich Beckwith who heads the bureau was unavailable for comment. Approval from Dean Manchester, Dean Hyatt, and the student council is required to continue the project.
Merle Wagoner surplus property coordinator announced today that miscellaneous dana tools for the industrial art department will arrive soon from three sources. He has sought electronic radio and audio visual instruction equipment since August, and notification of availability came from the state department of education.
Hard of hearing students at KSU are invited to lip reading classes at the speech and hearing clinic starting Monday at 3 p.m. Eleanor Gray, clinic supervisor, announced. Inquiries on admission are urged to contact the clinic promptly.
Twenty eight people have joined the campus YMCA in its current membership drive, announced by President Cal Logan today. Plans for the drive were finalized at a meeting last night and others may join after the drive by contacting a YMCA member.
A university faculty community chest drive opened yesterday led by Prof. Clarence A. Slocum. A 21 member committee will canvass homes and training school students aiming to net about $3 000. The red feather drive runs to the middle of next week and supports Kent Welfare Youth Organizations Cancer Society Salvation Army USO health aids for children and Catholic charities.

A life sized Miss Katie Kent mascot left Thursday for Cleveland to represent Phi Kappa Sigma sorority at the National Campfire Girls convention. An adult bus fare was paid for her trip and Cleveland Campfire members will meet her on arrival.
Dale Rowe, head of the car pool campaign, says the program is dropped for the Baldwin Wallace game after only four drivers signed up. He promises a new pool for the Ohio Wesleyan tilt and urges drivers with room to sign the placard in the hall between Kent and Merrill.
Dr. Donald Varian head of Akron university speech school toured KSU’s department to review radio studios regarded as the region’s most complete. Akron plans similar radio studies and works with John R. Montgomery to map proposed Akron speech therapy courses. Ardath Franck, a KSU graduate, teaches speech correction at Akron U.
Patricia M. Dease national commander of the Legion of Women Veterans will speak Monday at the Akron YWCA Hobby Room on work and aims of her group. An open forum on women veterans issues will follow as part of a several days visit including a stop at KSU.
The elections committee sets noon today as the deadline for Men’s Union petitions. Seniors need 25 signatures, juniors 50, and sophomores 25, all from the same class as the nominee. The nominee must sign his own petition. The committee meets at 4 p.m. in the student council office.
