Freshmen Elect Steering Committee for Coming Year

The freshmen meeting elected two steering committees. On the executive committee are Gordon Knisely Jim Licklighter Marvin Volosin Elmarine Rankin Frank Wendley and Jim Kanehl. The entertainment committee includes George Keith Janet Grant Jim Wright Leonard Stefany Waldron Rice and Jack Post.

Two Candidates Barred From Student Council Races

Of 44 petitioners for student council and class offices to be filled Oct. 25 two were declared ineligible. John Thomas, PC, cannot run for student council because he will be a junior next quarter and cannot represent the sophomore class for two quarters. Kim Frank, C, lacks enough credit hours to qualify for the sophomore class.

200 Servicemen Enroll in Kent State Industrial Arts Extension

More than 200 servicemen and women from Alaska to Tokyo Bay are enrolled in Kent State University industrial arts courses via the Armed Forces Institute plan. Courses include architectural drawing and descriptive geometry. Overseas students mail lessons by air and bamboo courier from the Pacific fronts, and the university provides special overseas mail service.

Former BA Professor Serves On Ship In Equatorial Zone

Lt. Comdr. Clarence A. Slocum USNR, a former business administration professor, writes from aboard the tanker Mores Fields near the Panama Canal that he expects to land in the United States within a week for discharge. He recalls nearly 9600 miles near the equator and plans to go to New Orleans then Chicago for his honorably discharge after naval service since 1942.

Kent State ex-president named special assistant to General MacArthur

Special Assistant Dr Karl C Leebrick former Kent State University president and army major was appointed special assistant to the political adviser of General Douglas MacArthur. Leebrick left the university June 15 1943 and has since served in Europe and the United States for his Pacific international relations study. He authored books on Hawaii and other Pacific islands.

Lab Fee Refunds At Treasurer’s Office

Laboratory fee refunds will be issued at the treasurer's office on Thursday and Friday, October 18 and 19, only.

Clinic Aids Fresh Writers

Dr. C. E. Satterfield announces a freshmen writing clinic to begin next week for students with deficiencies in writing fundamentals as shown by placement tests or course work. Students will attend until deficiencies are removed and may choose clinic times, with English 160 handling basic review.

Allocation Group Meets Thursday

The university budgets for the winter and spring quarters and the Men's union budgets will be discussed at the allocations meeting Thursday. Room 204 Merrill hall hosts the session which also plans fundraising for the varsity athletic fund to reorganize football.

Participants are urged to register for the Messiah Christmas production. Those who will attend all rehearsals should call the music office in Merrill hall during morning and afternoon hours. Registration closes tomorrow at 4 p m.

The Kent Stater repeated as All American in a national contest, scoring excellent in coverage vitality content and news treatment. Editors Elizabeth Ersley Piotter and Jane Selzer guided the paper during different award periods from February to June and October 1944 to February 1945.
