Students list 49 candidates on campus ballots for Homecoming

Three girls from Pan Campus, Coalition and Independent parties seek Homecoming Queen while five men run for senior class president. The slate includes Dorothy Roessel and Marilyn Soule among queens and Chuck Eyster Ed Zink Bill Guisewite among presidents, with multiple Coalition and Pan Campus contenders for junior and sophomore class offices.

Freshman Activities Start With Dance and New Leaders

Vic Cassano was named chairman of the freshman social and executive committees at a class meeting on Wednesday afternoon. He will serve until the regular class election in late November. Advisors selected include Dr Ronald Spacht Bruce Handley and Miss Laudine Harris. Red and white were chosen as colors and a dance will open the frosh social season.

Former Stater Editor Joins Berkshire Mariner Team

Jim Richard, former managing editor of the Kent Stater, becomes associate editor of the Berkshire Mariner while training at the Berkshire. He joined the merchant marine in September.

Pep Rally Tonight At Rockwell Field

Tonight at 8 15 p m on Rockwell field or in the auditorium if rain arrives a pep rally celebrates the team sendoff. Homecoming dance tickets on sale at gym box office

Tickets for the Homecoming dance on October 24 are sold at the Wills gym box office Wednesday through Friday. Students must show their activities card or fee receipt and admission is by ticket only for one couple. Alumni may request guest tickets by October 22 with a stamped self addressed envelope. Cal Dalton's Orchestra will perform from 9 to 12 in the gym.

Inflation in South America Told by Kent State Graduate

In a letter to Dr. Leebrick Miss Ann Armstrong, Kent State University graduate now teaching in Venezuela, explains war impact on the region. She notes prices above normal with butter 85 cents per pound mayonnaise $1 a pint cigarettes 42 cents a pack and gasoline 64 cents a gallon while coffee is plentiful and tea is hard for English to obtain.

Four Scholarships Awarded by Board at Regular Meeting

The board of trustees approved four scholarships at yesterday’s regular meeting. A special $50 scholarship was awarded to Dorothy Bordosky, a Youngstown freshman. General scholarships went to Jane Galloway, a sophomore, and Ray Gallagher, a junior. Suzanne Schwartz received a special speech scholarship.

Thirteen KSU Courses Offered to Servicemen

Thirteen correspondence courses are now offered by KSU to enlisted men with over four months in the armed forces. The U S government will pay half of the expenses.

Marilyn Soule Named Indies' Choice Third Homecoming Candidate

Marilyn Soule, a Medina liberal arts sophomore, was nominated by the Independent party as the third Homecoming queen candidate. She studies art, swims, works in the dining hall, and previously was named prettiest girl in Collinwood High School Cleveland Ohio. Charlie Eyster, coalition head, criticized the party for not reclaiming its old Independents form.

Pan-Campus Formed In Campus Political Upheaval

The second new campus party emerged with five member groups Beta Gamma Sigma Sigma Sigma Sigma Tau Gamma Theta Sigma Upsilon and Alpha Phi Beta, with Kappa Sigma Chi backing but not joining. Spokespersons Tom Johnson Jean Marie Johnston and Jeanette Happoldt say the move ensures fair representation and adheres to a new constitution. The party endorses Dorothy Roessel Sigma Sigma Sigma for homecoming queen.

Bozeka Assigned Lead in Freshman Play The Tightwad

Nick Bozeka a Canton speech major was given the lead role in The Tightwad during a late cast reorganization. Bill Guisewite, co director, announced the change. Tom Kallis left the cast over a schedule clash. Alpha Psi Omega will assist backstage for the freshman production and other University theatre shows.

Math Majors Minors Invited To Join Club

Mathematics majors are invited to attend the first meeting of the Math club in room 302 Merrill hall at 4 p.m. Monday. There will be an election of officers and planning of the year’s activities.

Miller Open to Selling Robin Hood for University Union

Douglas Miller owner of the Robin Hood restaurant said he would settle on selling his property to the University for a student union building. He suggested upstairs rental for dancing if maintenance could be managed. He noted his hours prevent late operations and the investment favors a restaurant operator.

University Women Lead Penny Drive to Aid Kent Servicemen

Dean Raymond E. Manchester heads a Kent State effort where Cardinal Key and several sororities contribute funds and arrange collection boxes for a Penny Drive to fund the Servicemen's Directory and distribute Kent State publications to 800 men in the service. Men’s groups urged to participate to avoid the project seeming one sided.
