President Bowman expresses appreciation to upperclassmen faculty and staff for helping during the fall term. He credits student volunteers with guiding new students in campus life and aiding the induction program. Freshman week chair E Turner Stump and Dr L S Hadley praise the student helpers' real contribution.
NTFC invites any student to audition for parts in the all student production No Time for Classes as announced by producer Robert West. Musical acts should report to room 119K Monday 5 to 7 p.m. Try-out dates for acting roles will be announced later. NTFC will present three performances Wednesday through Friday January 11 12 13 in the auditorium.
Dr. Leslie W. Garnett professor of English co authors two English textbooks with Buffalo teachers Miss Mary C. Foley and Miss Katherine Connell. The Language for Daily Use series covers seventh and eighth grade English and has begun to be adopted city wide and regionally.
The Migration day train to the Kent Bowling Green game will cost 5.50 round trip and go on sale at the Athletic ticket office next week. Bill Dunbar, Migration day committee chairman, notes the price excludes game admission.
Beginning Monday October 21 University Theatre launches a week long drive for memberships headed by Professor E Turner Stump and Professor G Harry Wright. Campus groups are urged to sell memberships with a trophy for 100 percent participation. A cider and doughnuts reception will be held on stage from 4 30 to 5 30 p m inviting all to attend and watch stage crews. Membership includes two admissions to UT format, a free reserved ticket to all UT productions, and a new annual activity. The drive is run by the executive committee LeBauman Julie Ross Bob Wallace and Ernie Mauer.
The North eastern Ohio Weeklies association founded in 1938 by Prof. William Taylor will hold its fall meeting at 6 in the Robin Hood. John D. Miller will lead the session with university faculty attendees Alfred Crowell Michael Radock and Henry Beck Jr. Dusty Miller, famed humorist and former Ohio publisher, will headline the program. After the meeting attendees will enjoy the Kent State vs Central Michigan game hosted by the athletic department.
The biggest sorority pledge class at Kent State University was recorded with 92 freshmen and 24 upperclass women signing in. Delta Gamma leads with 22 total members, 19 freshmen, followed by Alpha Phi with 17 freshmen and four upperclass members.
Six university faculty members and three students from the school of speech attend the Tri-State Conference on Pupil Personnel in Youngstown. Dr. L H Munzenmayer chairs the event and will preside at the banquet with Dean Raymony E Manchester as toastmaster.
The sophomores will have their individual pictures for the 1950 Chestnut Burr taken Monday to Wednesday October 17 to 19. Roger Baele, editor, directs students to Stopher hall lounge between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Men should wear suits or sport jackets with ties. Photo cost is covered by the Student Activity fee.
John D. Popa assistant professor of history at KSU recently completed his PhD at Harvard University. His topic was The Origin of Democratic Ideas in Southeastern Europe. A Romanian graduate of St. Basil and Titu Maiorescu colleges he studied law philosophy and letters at Cluj. He spent 15 years in Europe Africa and Turkey and joined KSU Canton division in 1947. Harvard degree will be conferred officially at mid year commencement in Cambridge.
Kent State graduate Ray Mitten class of 1939 calls his alma mater growth “Marvelous.” Mitten, a Washington correspondent for Knight newspapers, notes his dual role with Akron Beacon Journal and Knight papers. He praises campus progress and cites ongoing concerns about communist influence in universities.
Members of the KSU associate chapter of the American Newspaper Guild, the largest in the United States last year, consider withdrawing to operate as an independent journalism club. A withdrawal debate occurred Wednesday night with another meeting scheduled for Monday at 4 p.m. in room 107M. Akron guild representatives are expected. all journalism students are invited.
About 100 teachers from the Northeastern Ohio Council of Geography educators will attend the annual meeting on Saturday in 458 McGilvrey. A morning forum on geography teaching problems runs 9 to 12 with a luncheon at 12 30 at the Robin Hood.
