Producer Robert West announced the musical comedy No Time For Classes will debut mid January. West, WKSU script director, will issue try-out calls after music and lyrics are finished. He also wrote a one act play to be presented by UT and works for WAKR.
Dr. J. J. Engerrand associate professor of foreign languages will represent Kent State and the University of Texas at the inaugural celebration at Wittenberg College next week. Engerrand, Texas alumnus, taught five years at Wittenberg.
Lea Baumann a senior hosts Coed's Corner the first program aired weekly on Tuesday at 4 15 p m over WKSU Kent State University inviting suggestions from freshmen and other students via mailbox Kent Hall or mail to Station WESU Kent State University.
A university auditorium hosts an Oct 24 United Nations Day assembly marking the 1945 Charter ratification and birth of the UN. The event notes the General Assembly's 1947 decision to observe the day and promote peace and social progress. A speaker is yet to be announced.
Kent State University starts its 1949 Community Chest drive tomorrow led by Raymond Moran. Pledge cards will be distributed to departments for completion and return to Moran or department heads. Donations will support 14 local welfare agencies.
Charles Fletcher won the Blue and Gold party chair after Bill Kalaher resigned. Fletcher, Phi Beta Phi member, student council vice president, heads the elections committee and plays on the soccer team. He will lead through the next school year and guide party efforts for council and Men's Union races.
Students interested in panel control operator roles for WESU should meet with John Lapidakis chief engineer in the WESU control room at 11 a.m. tomorrow to learn duties and apply.
Four new faculty positions were approved by the Kent State University board. Dr. William A. Reuter becomes associate professor of education and assistant director of student teaching after leading the University of Vermont department of secondary education. Newton Morton joins as lecturer in traffic management with degrees from Wharton and a University of Pittsburgh certificate. Librarian appointments go to Mrs. Jane D. Lee and Mrs. Barbara S. Vincent, with degrees from Muskingum and Oberlin respectively.
The all university pep rally is set for eight tonight in front of Prentice Gate with Lt Col Thomas F Wall and history professor A Sellen Roberts scheduled to speak. The Varsity Five will provide music for the street dance and booster club president Joe Friedman urges students to stay off Main Street.
Kent State University gains approval as an acceptable school by the New York State Education Department after a study of its accounting staff curriculum and library facilities. Dean Arden L. Allyn notes intensified curriculum will require CPA board exams for future CPAs and cites nine instructors teaching 11 courses with four faculty holding CPA certificates from Ohio Indiana and Pennsylvania.
Friars fraternity hosts Founders day dinner at 5 30 tonight on College Avenue with Dean Raymond E Manchester and Dean Robert White as guest speakers. Other invitees include Rev John Cunningham George V Uihlein Jr Charles Storkan Charles Horning Francis Kerwin and Bernard Kennedy as province advisor of Theta Kappa Phi. The club formed two years ago aims to become an active local chapter of Theta Kappa Phi with 28 active and 16 alumni members.
Dr. L. S. Hadley of Wilmington College and Prof. Michael Radock of Kent State will serve as official delegates at the inauguration of Dr. Will W. Orr as Westminster College’s tenth president in New Wilmington, Pa. Hadley and Radock represent their respective alma maters.
Mayor Frank Dangler Jr. urges students to avoid leaving lunch scraps on residential lawns after eating in parked cars. He calls for proper disposal and respect for neighborhood greenery.
The annual Big Little Sister tea is Sunday Oct 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Moulton Hall Music room to promote fellowship between old and new students. Faculty and officers including Mrs. George A. Bowman Dr Ada V. Hyatt and dean of women among others will greet freshmen and housemothers will pour. Freshmen without big sisters should sign up at the Dean of Women's office during the week.
