The Booster club hosts a 8 p.m. pep rally at Prentice Gate and S Lincoln street with Dr A Sellen Rob erts Lt Col Thomas F Wall and the Flashes and coaches in attendance. A free campus town dance follows until 10 15 p.m. on S Lincoln street with the cheerleaders pep band and student safety urged on Main street.
Stuart Chase, noted economist and social critic, will open Kent State University forum series for 1949 50. He speaks Tuesday night November 1 at 8 15 p m in the university auditorium, title same as his latest book The Proper Study of Mankind. Chase recently visited Paris at UNESCO for peace related consultations.
Dr H F Raup head of the university department of geography and geology co authors with Dr Otis W Freeman of Eastern Washington college of education a new text book Essentials of Geography Just published the 470 page book is the newest volume in the Mc Graw Hill series in geography Raup came to Kent in 1945 from a wartime post with the Board of Geographical Names Washington D C He previously taught at Eastern Washington college of education and at the University of California where he earned his master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees.
The elections committee will meet this evening at 7 30 p m at the Phi Beta Phi house on E Main Street. They will decide when the election for the vacant Student Council seat will be held and discuss selecting judges for the Homecoming queen race.
Arrangements allow groups of over 50 to ride a private car on the KSU migration day train to Bowling Green on November 5. Contact Bill Dunbar, migration day train chairman. The B&O Kent terminal departure is 8 45 a m and return 12 30 a m. University women have 1 o clock permits from Dr Ada V Hyatt. Homecoming dance will follow and Kent State students may attend due to the schedule. The $7 fee covers the train trip and football game ticket.
Dean Robert I. White outlines a policy to select and screen university teacher-training students. The program grades students over two years, withdraws those with permanent defects, and requires improved deficiencies and a higher than CC major minor average to enter the final two years.
Prof. William L. Wannemacher of the history department told Gov. Lausche that a 20 year state of public corruption has come to a head in Portage county. He led a Good Government delegation seeking help to end the ties between gambling interests and law enforcement, saying the sheriff they helped elect has lost their confidence.
Wannemacher states there has been little honesty among public officials in twenty years except for two instances. Other members named include Ravenna high school speech instructor Robert Stockdale George Mc Clelland Ravenna attorney and former probate judge M W Staples Davey Tree Expert M Riddle of the Cleveland press.
The student council approved Robert West as producer for No Time For Classes with a readiness note. West will complete music and lyrics. tentative winter quarter fun night set. Hildegard Boehm named permanent secretary. Ruth Mason vacancy in senior class. general election expected within three weeks to fill posts.
The Independent Students association begins its year with a hayride next Friday Oct 21. Admission is 1.00 per couple. The group discussed sponsoring the Ohio Conference on Educational Democracy and will report next week. Marilyn Hall entertainment chair and Louis Lefkowitz membership chair led reports.
Northeast Ohio secondary teachers attend the second annual English conference on Monday Oct. 17. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the atrium with a luncheon at noon at Robin Hood. Speakers include Dr Harold A Anderson of the University of Chicago and Dr Lou LaBrandt of New York University with Frieda Heller of Ohio State assisting.
The College of Business administration announces that all students planning to graduate in December or March must file their application for graduation at the registrar's office immediately.
Professor Elizabeth M. Lewis head of the university secretarial science department received her Ph. D. degree at the State University of Iowa commencement on August 10. Majoring in commerce she wrote a dissertation on Market Diversification in the Decade 1939 1949. She returns to Kent after a year’s leave and has degrees from Illinois State Normal and University of Illinois. She has taught at Kent since 1943.
The graduate record examination is offered at Kent State on Oct 28 and 29. Many schools require the exam for advanced study. Details may be secured in 208K. Prof. D L Arnold, director of guidance testing, announced that all applications must be mailed before Friday Oct 14.
The Society for the Advancement of Management holds its first meeting today at 7 p.m. in room 317 McG. President E. F. Becker urges all members to attend.
