English Faculty and Pupils Plan All Day Conference

Paseo High School Kansas City Missouri hosts an all day conference led by English department head Miss Ruth Mary Weeks with four other leaders Dr S I Hayakawa Dr Ray Wood and Mrs Ruth Putnam. Topics include semantic teaching Ohio tests and teaching a play. A student panel and visual aids program are also on the schedule.

Orche Is Named Editor Of 1951 52 Student Directory

Ralph Orche has been named editor of the 1951 52 Student Directory published annually by Blue Key national honor fraternity. Bob Weber Blue Key president announced the appointment at the group’s first meeting of the year. Jim Thomas named business manager and Bill Stacks to design the front cover.

Wills Gym Lost and Found Receives Watches and Items

The lost and found reports a ladies wrist watch and the back and mechanism of another recently turned in. Other items turned in since classes began include pens pencils and books. Lost articles may be claimed in the Union office.

Fulbright Grants Still Available for Study Abroad

All seniors and graduate students may apply for Fulbright Scholarship grants. The final application date is October 16. Application forms are available from Dr. Harold Van Dorn in the political science department.

Life Photos Trace Culture Of Egypt at Life exhibit

A Life magazine exhibit titled Egypt opens Monday on the second floor gallery linking Kent and Merrill halls. It is the first in a year long history series, presenting about 50 Elisofon photographs from the Nile valley. The show runs through October 30 with works including the Gizeh pyramid and Ramesses II temple, leading to a November display on The Incas.

Health Center Hours and Attendance Policy

The health center operates daily from 8 a.m. to 5 30 p.m. with dispensary treatment during those hours. In emergencies, students are cared for at the infirmary any time, night or day. Excusal from class requires hospital stay, infirmary treatment, or a home physician statement.

SC Finaly Appoints Elections Committee

Thirteen independent students applied for seven openings on the elections committee. Seven named appointees include Leona Davis Stan Bober Lee Cohen Bernie Komar Art Meinhart Al Fortunato Ruth Ann Brown and several party representatives. The 17 newly appointed members will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Union.

Grads To Take Dept. Exams

Graduate qualifying exams will be given tomorrow at 9 a.m. under Dean Raymond M. Clark. Graduate students must complete six hours in their major before testing and pass to avoid retaking. Exam rooms include Arts building for art and industrial arts, various McG and M buildings for other departments, and Library for library science.

Guidance Council To Meet Oct 31 in Kent Area

The Kent Area Guidance council holds its first regular meeting on Wednesday October 31 in the Union with a 5 p.m. lounge gathering and a dinner in the cafeteria. No reservations needed. Wiley Garrett will report on testing activities. Co sponsors Dr. Dwight L. Arnold and Dr. Edna Oswalt announce committees on testing permanent records and junior high steering.

Rush Party Invitations Available In The Union

Invitations to sorority rush parties may be picked up in the Union from 10 to 11 30 Saturday morning only and not on Sunday as previously announced in the Stater.

Twirp Night planned at Western Reserve Kent game

The junior varsity teams clash on October 24 with Twirp Night as the featured half time event. Chet Purcell leads the Booster club effort to stage a Sadie Hawkins style fundraiser supporting an athletic training table.

Change Schedule For Open Pool In MPE Building

A revised schedule for the MPE building open pool specifies mixed swimming on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7 to 8 30 p m and Sundays from 2 to 4 30 p m. Men only swimming is on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 8 30 p m. Health certificates are required from the Health center with certificate and swimming card available for $1 per quarter.

Fund Sends Stater To Service Men

The Penny fund provides one Stater per week to servicemen. Drop pennies in the Dean of Men's office. To sponsor a serviceman, submit name and address or address change. Daily subscriptions are $2 a year at the Staters business office, 115 Merrill Hall.

Cardinal Key Meets for 6:45 Tuesday Planning Session

Cardinal Key, the women’s national service honorary, will meet Tuesday at 6 45 p m in room 201 M. President Marty Kinnamon says all members should attend to outline the year’s activities.
