Three Women Sign For Pilot Course At Kent State

A total of 47 applicants have registered for the Civilian Pilot Training course at Kent State by noon Tuesday, with 44 men and 3 women. Registrants will soon receive notices for physical exams with Dr. H. G. Rubin of Akron. The program mirrors last year’s, with a $40 student fee and a $20 government-paid ground training, and requires no military obligation. enrollment ends this week.

University Hosts Education Conference on Campus

Educators from northeastern Ohio will gather at the university campus October 13 and 14 for the tenth annual Teacher Training and Departmental conferences. Dr. J B Edmonson dean of the University of Michigan School of Education will be the principal speaker for the two day program.

Council Plans Migration To Reserve Grid Game

The Monday council meeting laid plans for the annual migration to a football game with a committee to study travel options. Dr K C Leebrick endorsed using buses for the trip from campus to League Park Cleveland while rejecting a train transfer plan. Don Scullion chairs the committee with Paul Hazen and Woodrow Barkett as assistants. the constitution was amended to three representatives per class.

1500 Students Poll Finds Fiction and Humor Favored

A poll of 1500 KSU students shows fiction and humorous books top reading choices. Contemporary authors attract 615 votes vs 237 for older writers, while the most popular single title is Gone With the Wind with 70 votes among about 450 other titles.

Dr. K C Leebrick and Kent city officials met to conciliate over campus parking. Debates over prohibiting student parking on Main Street faced funding gaps for a Linden Road traffic light. Construction on campus limited alternate lots, delaying decisions until October 16.

Greek born biology professor narrowly escapes war perils

Dr Constantine J. Alexopoulos, Greek citizen and U S born biology professor, faced conscription delays while on leave from the university. He traveled in Greece in 1938 to establish plant pathology work, nearly reached the Albanian border, and narrowly avoided military mobilization that would have halted his marriage plans and return to the United States.

Board Confirms Hackim Harris and Scholarships Announced

At a Board of Trustees meeting on Saturday Jack Harris was confirmed as editor of the Duchess. Four scholarship substitutes were named to replace those unable to accept. Recipients are Eleanor Guenther Cleveland Matta Hines West Salem Jane Schmiedel Akron and Cora Wilson Sebring. Scholarships run four years valued at 240 dollars. Lincoln Hackim named sports publicity writer and William Forbes appointed graduate assistant in biology.
