Trust Company Executive Praises Nuisance Courses

Paul E. Belcher of the First Central Trust Company Akron told Kent State University business policy seniors that broad foundational courses like French science and psychology are more important than specific job skills. He urged starting at the bottom and facing early hard blows, while Kent State continues its plan to have leaders discuss production sales and finance with seniors.

Nissley Earns Industrial Engineer Certification

Harold Nissley, professor of marketing, passed the two day Columbus exam to become a certified industrial engineer and will handle counseling work in engineering during summer while continuing heavy teaching duties. The test had 73 candidates, with 52 percent passing and 33 percent repeating. Business management falls under the certified industrial engineer scope, though he will not perform usual engineering work due to teaching load.

Union Officers Up For Popular Election

Union officers will be elected at the university election on October 10. All male students may vote for president, vice president, and secretary. Nomination blanks must be signed by 26 men and submitted by 1 p m Friday. The senior committee has five members and the junior committee four. freshmen and sophomores each have two members.

Five Students Enter OneYear Industrial Course

Five students Carroll Howard Milford Strain James Peck Adelbert Ferguson and Robert Hague enroll in a one year pre industrial course requiring twelve hours of recitation and eighteen hours of hands on work in woods metals electricity and mechanical drawing. Under direct supervision of Prof C F Van Deusen and J W Dirksen the program aims to explore suitable vocations rather than fulfill industrial requirements.

Establish Campus Draft Office For October 16

University leaders announce a campus draft registration drive for men aged 21 to 36 on October 16 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. A campus branch will handle students without Kent homes. Kent residents register at their precincts. The plan, part of the Burke-Wadsworth act, aims to build a large reserve for the army.

Dance Club Plans Request Show With Kent Women

The Women’s Modern Dance Club opens rehearsals for a request performance before the Kent Women’s Club. Manager Alita Boecker said the group, directed by Mrs. Virginia Harvey, will meet Tuesdays 7:15 to 8 p m and rehearsal groups 7:30 to 8:15 Wednesdays. They plan another spring festival larger than last year.
