NTFC announces open tryouts for the student musical Who Cares at the Union ballroom next Tuesday and Wednesday December 4 and 5. Auditions start 3 PM Tuesday and 7 PM Wednesday. singers dancers and comedians needed. bring own music for singers and dancers.
University students and the public are invited to a guest piano recital by Arthur Loesser at the Akron Jewish Center auditorium on Sunday at 8 30 p m. The event features a post concert reception and Loesser who is associate head of piano at the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Cleveland Press music critic has toured widely and performed with major orchestras including the New York Philharmonic. The concert is free.
At the fall meeting Jack Koontz editor of the Amherst News Times was chosen president. Luther Mohler Berea News, Harold Sherer East Canton News, and Paul Powell Orrville Courier Crescent were elected vice president treasurer and director at large respectively. William Taylor remains permanent secretary. Next meeting set for January 26 1952 at the Onesto Hotel Canton.
In a Kent State letter Lt. Jack A. Stickel reports a reunion of former Kent students at Camp Picket Virginia. Members listed include Lt. Carl Nagle Lt. Robert Welch Lt. Bill Drakelich Lt. Robert Lowry and Lt. Stickel all assigned to the 43rd Division then later at Fort Benning Georgia for an officers course. Also attending were Charles Kray Bill Blankenship Richard Schlup and Norman Pohler. They value receiving the Kent Stater funded by the Penny fund. All speech and hearing therapy majors and those planning to enter the field should schedule an interview with Prof. John R. Montgomery, director of the speech and hearing clinic, at the earliest convenience. A general assembly of interested students is being planned for the future.
The Chaplain's Corner column will run weekly in the States for the rest of the quarter. Rev A Laten Carter Rev Charles V Ireland and Father Mulray will author the pieces, each minister rotating weekly. The first column appears tomorrow in the Stater.
University women enrolled in orientation seminars at 10 and 11 a.m. Friday must report to 212 McGilvrey Hall instead of their usual Arts building room, per the Dean of Women's office.
Independent invitees to the open council meeting next Wednesday are discussed as Bud Davis says issues will focus on student needs. The event at 4 p.m. in 317 McGilvrey will feature posters and publicity for student awareness.
Students who cannot obtain schedule books from advisors may pick them up in the Registrar's office. Trial programs must be signed by advisors this week so students can register with departments next week. Freshmen should consult faculty advisors rather than peer counselors from freshman week.
Wittenberg University and Springfield industry join in a $125,000 cooperative effort to upgrade supervisory personnel. The plan, funded by participating industries with Chamber of Commerce support, allows foremen to take one week off for on campus study in human relations economics and company operations. About 800 men expected to benefit in year one with salaries paid and tuition covered. program runs 29 weeks with 25 to 80 supervisors weekly. Antioch and Fenn colleges also use similar earning while learning systems in Ohio.
The Art club cancels all remaining meetings this quarter. The Arts building 121 will remain open Tuesday and Thursday nights for members to work on individual workshop projects. The quarter will focus on preparing for the Student Alumni show in January.
Oberlin college authorities approve a system of independent studies for the curriculum replacing the old honors work. Qualified students after five semesters may undertake majors linked research with seminars projects and papers plus special reading courses tailored to their department.
Senior class president Mike Tangi calls class meetings on Tuesday December 4 at 9 and 11 am and Wednesday December 5 in 317 McGilvery to appoint committees and committee chairmen.
