Faculty Weigh Proposed Student Constitution

Faculty will review the new student constitution before ratification set for December 9. A seven member faculty committee will present recommendations at a future meeting and the council may delay election day to allow changes. Balloting Opens for All-Service Queen at Kent State

Ballots for the All-Service Queen at Kent State University have begun to come in and are being tabulated. Magazines were mailed to former Kent students now in the armed forces, including soldiers sailors and marines. The first vote arrived with Pvt J W Taylor of Atlantic City New Jersey casting for Faith Duerr.

Students Urged To Travel Home Early

University students are urged to depart early to ease rush hour congestion. Westbound trains leave 11 05 a m 4 43 p m and 12 27 a m Thursday while eastbound arrivals to Kent are 7 29 a m 5 35 p m and 3 38 a m Buses to connecting points depart hourly Students are advised to buy Christmas tickets now to aid passenger space planning.

Son of Former University Official Killed at Guadalcanal

Captain Jack Gillespie 24, son of former University business manager, was killed in action in Guadalcanal. Born in Kent, he rose from Washington and Lee to Marine Corps captain after training at Quantico and Parris Island. His parents in Columbus received the wire noting his gallantry and service since 1940.

KMKs Boost Penny Drive Leads Penny League

The Kappa Mu Kappa fraternity added 83.44 dollars to the Penny Drive and moved into first place in the Penny league. Kent Taylor won the team autographed football drawn by Frances Farson in a Brady Friday drawing. The Miss Penny Drive election was postponed by the Men's Union Penny Drive committee due to time before the holiday. Ballots now cast Thursday December 3. The YMCA will run the Penny Drive tomorrow instead of Thursday.

Reserve Programs Enroll 212 Men

Adrian Van Wyen, adviser, announced that 212 University men are enrolled in reserve corps to date. The army reserve corps leads with 112 members. The army air force reserve lists 24 future pilots while the marine reserve has 15. Navy V-1 includes 37 and V-5 has five. The final 22 members are in V-7, totaling 64 navy reserves.

Novotny's Daughter Joins Local Art Club

Karen Novotny, daughter of E Ladislaw Novotny and Mrs Novotny, is announced as the newest and youngest member of the Art club. Professor Novotny serves as adviser and Mrs Novotny is made an honorary member, per John Paulich the club president.

Garth to Deliver Thanksgiving Address at University Assembly

Dr Schuyler Garth of Trinity Methodist Church Youngstown will speak at a 2 pm assembly for the University student body and faculty on the Thanksgiving message. The talk, based on finding reasons for gratitude amid war calamities, will be delivered with four numbers by Bruce Handley’s a cappella choir.

Margaret Lewis Crowned Pigskin Prom Queen at Wills Gym

Margaret Lewis of Alpha Omega sorority was named Pigskin Prom queen during a football themed evening at Wills gym on Friday night. Bo Dutton and Joe Hart presented flowers to the honored student before about three hundred couples as decorations celebrated the team and its win over Akron.

Trans Atlantic Talk Scheduled By Taylor

Prof William Taylor former chair of the school of journalism has arranged a two way talk on the Blue network from 10 15 to 10 45 with a Sperry Gyroscope ex employee now in the U S armed forces in England and Sperry company president. The discussion on the companys equipment value to the war effort is part of This Nation at War on the National Association of Manufacturers program tonight.

Gilbert Sullivan Lives To Be Aired

Kent State Radio Workshop presents An Event in the Lives of Gilbert and Sullivan at 4 30 p m on KSRW. Carol Richards wrote the script directed by Jim Muzzy with cast members Jim Bullock Jim Muzzy Suzanne Schwartz and Nick Bozeka. Future broadcasts include publicity for Arsenic and Old Lace by the University theatre.

Women's Glee Club Plans Victory Sings at University

The Women's Glee Club at KSU sponsors Victory Sings starting December 2 to unify students and involve faculty and townspeople in American folk and University songs. Miss Elfreda Littlejohn notes the war effort aims to build unity while Ruth West emphasizes closer national ties. The first session is December 2 from 7 to 8 pm at the Training School Auditorium, prior to the Wednesday shuffle. Plans for a Christmas Victory sing replace the Messiah on December 13.
