Student council will seek ratification of a new university constitution on December 9. Unanimously approved by Council, the document requires more than half of enrolled students to vote yes. If approved, it goes to the administration and board of trustees, with possible mid January meeting delaying implementation.
The Rt. Rev. Beverly D. Tucker, Bishop of Ohio, will speak at the Thanksgiving assembly on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the University auditorium. Rev. Tucker, former director of religious leadership at the University of Virginia, will be introduced by Rev. Stephen Kelker of Kent Christ Church Episcopal. The University a cappella choir, directed by Bruce Handley, will perform two numbers.
George K. Moran, 60, father of Ray Moran instructor in business administration, died Monday after a sudden heart attack. Funeral services were conducted yesterday at Viall Kessler funeral home in Akron with attendance by Dr. Donald E. Anthony and other department colleagues.
Dr. David Olson head of geography department was chosen last night as chairman of the division of natural sciences at the liberal arts college to succeed Dr. Constantine Alexopoulos.
A commemorative plaque honoring 34 Golden Flash football players who defeated Akron ends a 14 year jinx. The 2 p m rally in the auditorium features the KSU Chanters directed by Bruce C Handley, the University band led by Roy Metcalf, cheer leaders, and remarks by Charles Ayres. Roy Apple presents the plaque to President Leebrick for Head Coach G D Starn.
Two extension speakers will read humor at Brimfield Methodist Church bazaar in Brimfield Town Hall tomorrow evening. Suzanne Schwartz and Herbert Myers will participate. Myers directs the extension service bureau, a division of the Student Forensic association, which serves area community groups during the year.
Professor Frederick B. Marbut argues at a University war forum that exposing bad war news promptly benefits the public. He says delaying truth harms Americans more than reporting it. Fellow speakers include Dr. William Shepherd and M. A. Wolcott discussing censorship.
A joint enlistment board of the army army air corps and marine corps reserves will sign up University men this morning. Adrian Van Wyen faculty armed forces adviser said enlistment in reserve programs closes December 31 for men now enrolled. Army reps in room 107 Merrill hall army air corps 109 M and marine corps 215 Kent hall. Capt C A Wilkinson from Columbus will lead. A board came October 29 to interview interested men.
The Akron football autographed ball for the Penny Drive will be raffled at 4 pm at Captain Brady. Frances Farson, Kent State's "Daisy Mae," will draw the winner. The Men's Union Penny Drive committee plans a "Miss Penny Drive" vote with every penny counted as a vote. Roy Apple, publicity chairman, announced details yesterday.
University faculty and students will leave their posts Wednesday at 5 p m to observe a four day vacation. Classes will resume Monday Nov 30, Registrar E C Stopher said yesterday.
The tentative budget of 2 317 210 for 1943 44 requests seven new campus structures including a stadium maintenance warehouse field houses for men and women and buildings for industrial arts music student health and central dining. 832 000 for additions and betterment funds the program with health and industrial arts plans approved.
Cooperating with the Kent gas rationing board, President K C Lee yesterday appointed a transportation committee to handle all faculty and student requests for supplemental mileage ration books. Lawrence Wooddell heads the committee to distribute blanks and determine eligibility for extra book B. Applicants must have four or more passengers and be in areas with inadequate public transportation. Supplemental mileage rationing runs through November 23 to 30.
About 30 YWCA members will undertake a Chinese-American acquaintance tour in Cleveland, led by president Miss Jean Garee. The program includes a visit to a Chinese temple and dinner at a Chinese restaurant, with meeting time set for 7 15 a m at the Administration building. Accompanying advisers are Miss Jeanne Parrish and Mrs John Blair.
