Business Manager Emil Berg says the Courier-Tribune photos and hub attract many visitors who study and eat there. About 350 sandwiches, 1,000 cups of coffee, 1,600 cokes and 70 dozen doughnuts are consumed daily.
Harry Hollingsworth leads a Buchtelite protest over the Pen and Pencil track meet rules after Kent Stater claims the jug and front page. Kent wins three events to one as Akron editors refuse surrender, planning to re challenge next year. Kent journalists recover from the victory.
Tonight's Salute to KSU will end the series on WAKR with over 100 tickets given to university clubs for the studio audience. Emcee Alan Freed will interview participants as clubs contact Dan Dana in the Stater office before 5 30 p.m. Doors close at 10 45 p.m. and the show runs from 11 15 to midnight.
The school of music unveils two major programs within weeks. New staff Irene Greenleaf Drake and Dwight E Weldy present the first faculty recital Tuesday Nov 25 at 8 15 p m in the auditorium. Handel's The Messiah is set for Sunday Dec 14 with Caro M Carapetyan directing university choirs and about 250 performers in three choirs and an orchestra. Drakes program includes Beethoven sonata Chopin scherzo Liszt Rhapsody No 12 while Weldy sings arias from Mendelssohn Elijah and other works.
Louise Jones chosen as organizations editor for the 1948 Chestnut Burr completing the yearbook editorial staff, per Burr editor Frank Carioti. The junior in the college of education earns the post as part of the szkol term piece.
A special citation for outstanding service during the war will be presented to a KSA faculty member at a short assembly tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the auditorium. The recipient’s name remains secret until assembly time. Rear Admiral J Cary Jones will deliver the citation with President George A Bowman and Lt Col Thomas Wall present. Veterans are urged to attend. the 15 minute event will be brief.
South American geography taught by Ernesto Montenegro, visiting associate professor of Spanish, native of Chile. Two more courses by geography geology faculty: H F Raup teaches fundamentals of climatology and Carleton N Savage teaches principles of geomorphology.
The American Veterans' committee AVC plans an open meeting today at 4 p.m. in room 210K to organize a new chapter. All veterans, men and women, are invited per state AVC officer Phil Brustein.
For the first postwar election three major parties push candidates for office. Greek groups Blue and Gold and Blue Star face challenge from Independent Students association with 23 of 50 candidates. SNE students field for sophomore and junior posts as seniors and council offices remain with larger parties.
Twenty eight students were recommended for inclusion in the 1948 Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Named are Wilbur Adams Virginia Black Jim Bullock Dona Mae Burkhardt Robert Casey Frank Carroll Jeanne Cook Anne Domiter Mickey Dover Robert Duncan Betty Faulds Jean Goncher Ruth Hoehn Eleanor Meek Irwin Newhouse Roy Newsome Geraldine Petzel Tom Davey Phyllis Robbins Ethel Schirmer Isla Schnauffer Frank Spechalske Phoebe Steiner Bob Wentz Bob White and Frank Wendely. Alternates are Matilda Davis and John Finn. Choices were made by Phil Dempsey John Gressard and Bill Shuttleworth.
On campus two Ches shire Higbee representatives will take Burr photo orders. Seniors will designate which portrait to appear in the Burr. Time and place for ordering will be announced later.
Ray Moran, faculty manager of athletics, reports only 100 train and game combination tickets remain for Migration day. Nearly 900 of 1 000 KSU allotment have been sold. after 3 p.m. today tickets may be bought separately as game tickets. Combination tickets cost 3 25 dollars for the Youngstown college contest Friday night.
Stater and Chestnut Burr staff members abandon work for an intra mural football match on Tuesday at 4 on the field. Burr team led by Dempsey features Magee Kidd and Carroll while Stater crew led by Lengacher counters with Weymueller and Finn in a spirited rivalry.
