Bush captured the freshman presidency after seven counts with 171 votes on the seventh count and a quota of 169. Dick Day and Frank Bond placed second in their respective roles while Lois Kievitt and Tary Labyk finished near tops in secretary and treasurer races amid a 336 vote freshman election with a brief 60 vote burst.
College of education students set to graduate this quarter are urged to obtain graduation applications immediately.
Speakers at the Armistice Day dedication of the servicemen Roll of Honor said the real honor lies with the folks back home. Killed in action in the Aleutian Islands on October 14 is Lieutenant Robert Neal, formerly a University student.
The Off Campus Women's club gathered 8.32 dollars earning sixth place in the Penny League. Agnes Young, secretary to Dean Manchester, reported late last night as the regular Thursday drive is set to run five weeks led by Kappa Mu Kappa fraternity and several campus groups.
Robert S. Abbott won the feature writing contest earning 10 points for first place in the Manchester Cup series. Judge Harlan M. Hungerford praised Abbott's piece titled December 7. A second contest in poster and water color sketching is led by Al Van Auker and John Paulich per Prof. E. L. Novotny, with the essay contest to begin after today.
Pan-Hellenic council votes to penalize the Alpha Omega sorority for violating the spirit and law of Pan-Hellenic. The group faces penalties to be passed by the board of advisers after being charged with giving a prize to a rushee and thus influencing that rushee and attendees.
War cancels Messiah due to transportation and male voice issues. Prof. F H Denker head of music school expresses regret and announces cancellation. Chorus members who checked out music copies should return them to the music office in Merrill Hall room 15.
Freshmen Frances Far son and Frank Bond win the Daisy Mae and Li'l Abner titles at the Sadie Hawkins Day dance in Wills gym judged by Ken Nichols of the Akron Beacon Journal. Seven hundred attend as Grady Jackson hosts and the Pickup Five plays hillbilly music with prizes of a chicken and a rabbit.
Adrian Van Wyen University flight coordinator issues a statement clarifying university responsibility to armed forces and student reserve enlistees. He defines good standing by academic records and notes withdrawal or failure to maintain progress will be reported to service reps.
Members of the varsity football team will meet Monday at 4 PM in room 101 Merrill hall to elect Bo Dutton as chairman of the Pigskin Prom queen elections. The annual dance is set for Saturday Nov. 21 in Wills gym.
A new student housing committee at the university forms a Fraternity Housing Council to judge violations. Members include James Patterson, Frank Fleder, Cornelius Papp, Al Geigey, John Salisbury, Earl Vacaria and others from six sororities and fraternities. They outline visiting hours, quiet hours, and fraternity libraries.
On the KSU campus the question is whether Kent State will break the 14 year jinx against Akron or Akron will continue the rivalry. Kent is the favorite as the Golden Flashes and Zippers have a long history of close games and upsets.
