Twenty University students were named for citation in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, per dean of men Ray mond E Manchester. Selections honor leadership in activities, leadership ability, and scholarship.
Dawn patrol ceremonies for three pledges were started by Chi Pi at 1 30 a m in the Journalism house. Ligon Mayhew editor of the Duchess magazine Matthew Fenn managing editor of The Kent Stater and Roy Apple Stater sports columnist were formally pledged for individual work on university publications.
Dr. Paul Henry Fall president of Hiram College will speak at a 8 p m dedication convocation in the auditorium. Russ Hill chair of the Blue Cardinal Key committee announced the event, urging all students and faculty to attend to honor servicemen and Kent State pride. Fraternities and sororities are attending the ceremony. Beat Akron.
Kappa Mu Kappa fraternity offers to run the Penny drive marking a shift from sororities to include male oversight. The Off Campus women's club will lead a Thursday personal approach campaign as women still lead the Penny League.
Bill Long, a sophomore in the College of Liberal Arts, was hailed a hero after diving into the University pool to rescue freshman Kent Taylor who failed to surface after a dive. Witness Claudine Harris noted Taylor was not a strong swimmer. Taylor recovered without needing medical help.
The Student Forensic Association debaters will meet Thursday November 12 at 7 30 p m in room 315 Kent Hall. Prof James N Holm director announced the change to allow attendance at the special convocation Wednesday evening.
Student council reviews Dr. K C Leebrick letter from the University president about requiring a faculty signature on student funds requisitions. The council sees it as indicating arrangements exist, and if the faculty member refuses to sign the requisition goes unsigned to the business manager for action. Further interpretations view it as urging faculty consultation with student representatives.
The board action on October 15 1942 followed by Mr Law consulting the Student council led to a recommendation from the Student Allocation Committee for this quarter’s activity funds. Approved requests will be signed by students and reviewed by the responsible faculty member before expenditure.
Students who play cymbals or clarinet should report to Roy D Metcalf band director immediately. Players are needed to complete eight formations Metcalf planned for the Akron game. Akron's band will not play during the half.
Bruce Handley assistant professor of voice will be the featured singer in the first in a series of faculty recitals tonight at 8 15 p m in the University auditorium. Fred H Denker chairman of the school of music and Harold Miles instructor in piano will play several piano duets. This is the first faculty recital to feature more than one artist according to Professor Denker.
Joe Bifstzk outlines Sadie Hawkins Day rules for Kent folks with Dogpatch flair. John Paulich and Kenny Rickard announce activities cards and attire, with prizes for imitates of Li’l Abner and Daisy Mae. Lem Tolliver’s band provides music as Mayor Gurgle notes local demand for weddings and funerals in Skonk Holler. Girls receive date tags by mail and may not wear them until they secure a date for the dance.
The KSRW will stage an original drama about the Marine Corps to mark its 167th anniversary. The cast includes freshmen Jim Bullock Alan Hammock and former student Dale Schussler, with Carol Richards as writer and Bob Raful directing.
Prof James N Holm and five speech students judged two Prince of Peace oratory contests in East Palestine and Streetsboro on Sunday afternoon and evening invited by the Ohio Council of Churches sponsors. Scheffer Pierce and Herb Myers accompanied Holm to East Palestine. Bernie Harris Dick McGinnis and Elizabeth Ersley judged Streetsboro rounds.
