Faculty Music Recital Opens Season Tuesday Night

The School of Music faculty will present the first public recital of the season at 8 15 p m Tuesday Nov 10 in the auditorium. Bruce C Handley joins Fred H Denker and Harold Miles in a joint program featuring two pianos and vocal pieces including Rondo Brilliante Op 84 No 2 and When the King Went Forth to War among others. Handley returns from San Francisco where he studied with Mabel Riegelman and worked with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Students Urged to Secure Activity Cards Now

Students who have not secured their activity cards from the registrar's office should do so immediately. E. C. Stopher, registrar, announced today. The activity cards are necessary for participation in the various University social activities for the year.

Gamma Sigs Climb From Penny League Cellar

Gamma Sigma Phi sorority rose from last place in the Penny League after collecting about 13 dollars in the Thursday personal approach drive disclosed by Agnes Young secretary to the dean of men. University Pilgrim fellowship joined the cellar with 5.40 while Cardinal Key added 2 from permanent boxes. Alpha Omega sorority led the league.

Clinchy Calls for New World After War and Peace Lead

Dr. Everett R. Clinchy urged college students to lead in forming a just durable peace and Americas role in world organization. Four University Theatre sophomores reappear in rehearsals for December 3 and 4 performances of Arsenic and Old Lace. Mary Haines Jeanne Phister and Stella Greenbaum formed the leading female cast with Wilbur Adams and Stan Mouse headlining the male roles.

Holm Announces Yearly Debate Squad Roster

J N Holm director of forensics released the 10 member debate squad for the coming year. Members include Margarette Brown Robert Abbott Bernie Higgins Elizabeth Ersley Warren Fuller Adelaide Snyder Herbert Myers Scheffer Pierce Donald Wargowsky and Josephine Wright. Practice begins in about two weeks with varsity selection to follow. Next meeting is 7 30 p m Wednesday November 11 in room 315 Kent Hall.

Tightwad First Night Attracts 600 At Freshman Play

Ruth Recht reports the Freshman Players staged The Tightwad drawing about 600 spectators. Nick Bozeka gave a convincing performance as the middle aged father and Bob Stevenson impressed as the tightwad, with supporting turns by Leroy Haley Suzanne Schwartz Patricia Moe Bill Gilcrest and others. The comedy follows a spendthrift turned tightwad and a neighbor’s flirtation as it moves slowly to a brighter final act under the direction of Stan Mouse and Bill Guisewite.

Chi Pi To Pledge Three At Dawn Patrol Ritual

Three journalists will be formally pledged to Chi Pi, a men's professional fraternity, during a dawn patrol ceremony at 1 30 a m Tuesday. The Journalism house at 528 East Summit Street hosts the event honoring Matt Fenn, Ligon Mayhew, and Roy Apple for their work with University publications.
