Mammy Yokum reports Sadie Hawkins day activities in Kentucky with a dance planned for next week and a race announced for Tuesday. Mothers fear their sons will flee the “man-chasing” event as race rules require registration at The Stater office.
An estimated $35 has been collected to date to fund four new athletic scholarships. Ray Moran, part time instructor in business administration, announced. Over last weekend glass banks were placed at the houses of several fraternities and sororities. KMK donated $10 to start the drive. Dr. A Sellen Roberts, chairman of the athletic policy committee, said the committee would meet late this week to rule on the scholarships.
The campus parking committee will present recommendations on the campus parking problem to President K. C. Leebrick tomorrow at 11 a.m. The proposals were delayed from Monday night due to the illness of Dean of Men Raymond E. Manchester.
Dr L H Munzenmayer director of teacher placement will chair a round table on college curriculum for pupil personnel workers at the Tri State Pupil Personnel conference in Fort Wayne Indiana this week He leaves campus tomorrow to attend meetings Thursday Friday and Saturday and will lead his discussion Friday afternoon Miss Jeanne Parrish assistant dean of women will also attend with representatives from colleges universities and public schools in Ohio Indiana and Michigan attending the three day meeting
Alf Lovell, Kent mayor, became the first Republican reelected to consecutive terms with 1 873 votes to 1 397 for Howard Cook. E C Stopher elected councilwoman in the fourth ward, Stephen A Harbourt reported councilman at large. Bond and fire levy approved. 70 and 76 3 percent. Other results include Meeker defeating Manko for treasurer and Cleveland and Ravenna mayoral races in progress. Fiorello LaGuardia reelected mayor of New York City with Roosevelt endorsement.
The first KSRW student program aired yesterday at 4 pm on WADC Akron. A half hour featured a chorus performing Maeterlinck and Bortnianski pieces with Clara Biasella singing Homing. A ten minute political discussion debated sending an army to Europe if Germany threatens England, reflecting campus polling. Tom Bates delivered a campus news roundup. This followed Kent hall studio broadcasts from the previous Saturday.
The Student Forensic association hosts monthly interdepartmental forums starting next Tuesday November 11 to discuss Are the Stage and Screen Dangerous Propaganda Agencies The program features ten minute talks by H D Byrne Eric Griebling John F Cuber and G Harry Wright followed by questions and audience participation chaired by Tom Rickey in Kent Hall room 316
In a class on production management Mr. Nissley teaches 19 boys and one girl, Anne Paz, who earned the top score with an A on the comprehensive test. The piece emphasizes that Miss Paz achieved the highest result in a field depicted as masculine.
Kent State University will host 16 colleges and universities for the Ohio Valley International Relations club conference on Friday and Saturday. Speakers include Werner A. He cited financial security from better job prospects and argued that educated individuals gain cultural awareness and a broader interest in life, noting boredom signals lack of education.
Eight students won prizes in a national contest sponsored by Boston University’s College of Business Administration for the best criticisms and comments on ads in the Saturday Evening Post. Professor G Harry Wright announced the final casting of the University theater production The World We Live In. Try outs for the 40 roles were held throughout the week.
