The Stater extends the deadline for bathing beauties to June 3 for its ninth annual Rowboat Regatta. Applicants may wear shorts tee shirts or sunsuits, with photographers expected and TV stations invited. Send entries to queen chairman Bob Burdock at the Stater office.
The university school of music presents Martha Lansinger a cellist in a senior recital at 8 15 this evening in 309M Miss Lansinger a Kent resident active on campus will graduate from the college of education next month Her program accompanies by Robert Smith at the piano includes the Brahms E minor sonata Hindemith suites Handel concerto and Bach sarabande The recital is open to the public without charge.
Dr. Gerald Chapman announces the senior week schedule with events from June 5 to June 11. Activities include baccalaureate line up, university reception, Sandy Lake picnic, convocation, graduation practice, luncheon, prom at Portage hotel Akron, and commencement with ticket distributions.
Dr William E Troup will be guest speaker at the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship gathering at 7 30 p m in 115K. He has just returned from Africa filming missionary work and will show several thousand feet of moving pictures. The program welcomes all university students and faculty.
Final swimming assessments for Regatta participants occur today 8 to 9 p.m. Wednesday 4 to 5 p.m. and Thursday 4 to 5 p.m. All entrants must test. Organizations entering Regatta should pay the $10 fee to cover boat rental costs.
Lea Bauman announces campus day coronation on May 28 at 1 15 p m on the lawn between Moulton Hall and the library. Roy Metcalf leads the band in the processional with Cardinal Key members in the court. Ann Irons introduces the queen and attendants, Irv Wheatley crowns the queen, and crown bearer Mary Williams plus flower girl Ruth Fitzpatrick participate. Susy Holm Emily Winslow carry the train. jesters Jim Irogan Art Polen perform. Maypole dance directed by Bertha Whitton ends with a recessional.
Sir Laurence Olivier's Hamlet will screen at Schine's Kent theater June 1 and 2 with discounted student tickets. KSU students pay 1 dollar with coupons from Prof. Stump or Prof. Satterfield, plus student ID. general admission ranges 1.20 to 2.40 dollars. Four performances, all seats reserved, two showings daily at 2:30 and 8:30. A student may bring a nonstudent date with two coupons.
The first university flight meet, cancelled last week, is rescheduled for tomorrow at 5 30 p m at the university airport. Adviser Andrew Paton said the Flying Club will host the event.
Seating for the Scholarship day assembly at the university auditorium tomorrow 11 a.m. was announced by Thomas M. H. Blair professor of English. Sororities sit upstairs fraternities downstairs seats held until 10 55 a.m. Dean Robert I. White speaks on Scholarship and Democratic Society. Butler cited for 4.0 average along with one other student. Elizabeth Steve will present the Women’s Panhellenic Scholarship Cup to the top sorority. Numerous awards listed across Greek groups with specific seat assignments outlined for balcony and main floor.
John Yezbak Timken public relations manager will speak at the Society for the Advancement of Management spring banquet tonight at 7 30 at the Smorgasbord Stow. He is a 1933 NYU graduate and former Barnsboro Star editor. A June 4 student conference on campus runs 9 30 to 2 30 with luncheon at noon. The $1 25 fee covers the day. Reservations contact Bob Carney 314M before June 1.
The sixth grade French students from the university school join Le Cercle Francais for a program of short plays at 8 p m in the university school auditorium. Guests include students from KSU Canton and Akron University. Two pieces are La Farce du Cuvier and L Anglais tel Qu on le Parle.
The Stater corrects a prior report naming Dr. Ralph W. Lockman as the degree presenter. President Bowman performs this portion of the program each year.
Graduating seniors must obtain reserved seat tickets for commencement exercises per Dr. Gerald Chapman. Tickets are available at the information booth in the atrium on June 1 2 and 3.
All senior girls planning to attend the Women s league senior banquet must notify Eleanor Krempasky by tomorrow.
