Alpha Phi Omega hosts the Hot Rod Hop at Wills gym tennis courts from 9 p.m. to midnight with Gregory and his quintet providing music. Attire contests award left handed coffee cups. proceeds fund a victory bell project for Homecoming. Rain plan shifts to university training school gym. tickets 65 cents.
Applications for the Manchester cup must be turned in to the dean of men's office today at 5 p.m. The cup will be awarded for outstanding service to the university and presented at the Senior Men's banquet sponsored by the Men's union. Applications are available at the dean of men's office.
ROW BIDS Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Chialpha club enter the 10th Annual Rowboat regatta. Applications to enter must be turned in to State Editor Carol Hart by Wednesday, May 24 with a five dollar fee. The regatta is set for Sandy Lake on Saturday, June 8.
The Kent ROTC unit hosts an Armed Forces Day display in the Military Science building tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ROTC staff will explain the gear and answer questions. Exhibits include machine guns rifles mortars land mines hand grenades and walkie talkies.
Three alumni will return to Kent to join a panel on current problems in music teaching at 7 p.m. in Merrill Hall 312. Sponsored by the University Music Educators club, the student chapter of the Music Educators National Conference, the event will be moderated by Prof. Florence Sublette. Alumni include Lucille Hill Jess B Freeman and Ralph Faulk.
Union and Stopher halls close for the summer economy. Dormitory meals consolidate in Lowry Hall on cash basis with no meal tickets. Lowry hall serves from Saturday noon to Monday morning not at session start. Union hours stay normal if business supports it.
Ten deaf children ages 4 to 12 will attend a party hosted by Phi Gamma Theta at the university training school this afternoon. Charles Hykes of Deerfield will receive a summer scholarship for the training school. The event features a treasure hunt and a baseball game with refreshments served.
Nine students will travel to Mount Desert Island Maine this summer to study geology in the rough. Accompanying the group is Prof. C N Savage and the named students include George Carlyle Frank Crawford Edward Criley Glentt Frank Donald Gifford John Higgins Robert Holt Leerie Summers and Richard Thompson.
Ray McKinley and his orchestra will play the Campus day dance in Wills gym from 9 p.m. to midnight on Saturday May 27 with a 50 cent per couple charge to cover expenses. The day includes a breakfast at Robin Hood for alumnae and members at 10 a.m. and the K Girl Marilyn Jones painting the lawn behind the library at 11 a.m. The May queen crowning and May Pole dance follow, with float judging noon to 2 30 p.m. and a parade on Wilson avenue and campus drives. Longfest starts at Merrill hall at 6 30 p.m. Seven minutes are allocated to each group and trophies will be awarded during intermission.
Student Council President Bill D Alexander says applications for campus committees are due by 4 p.m. Monday. Any student may apply for one post and a 2.0 quarterly and 2.0 cumulative GPA are required. Elections Friday will form six committees with D Alexander appointing Elections committee members.
Applications for prom queen must be submitted to Paul C. Kitchen in the political science department by Monday May 22. Any junior girl with at least a 2.0 average may be sponsored by a sorority fraternity or independent group. The queen will reign at Meyer's Lake May 29 in an all university election next Thursday.
A two day driver clinic will be held here Tuesday and Wednesday sponsored by the industrial arts driver training class. Under Prof. Andrew Paton AAA endorsed devices will test reactions of potential drivers. A road test in a special car will also be given. Report to rooms 101 102 Merrill hall at 6 30 p m.
Students must submit their programs to the registrar by Monday May 22. Details on filling large white cards and paying fees will be announced next week.
Col Henry W Robinson praised the ROTC cadets after the annual inspection noting excellent appearance marching and handling of weapons. He highlighted discipline courtesy and military bearing as outstanding and said a rating will be sent from Second Army headquarters Fort Meade at a later date.
