Frank Petee, a journalism student, operates an air taxi to move people quickly between cities while building flight hours toward a commercial license. He flies passengers with no fee beyond operating costs under a government rule, touting a cheap, simple service.
The Off Campus Women’s club postpones the Friday May 10 dance at Hotel Kent to May 17 per president Aileen Milligan. Plans for the annual banquet move to Thursday May 16 at Hotel Kent with Virginia Cole and Kathleen Morton directing arrangements.
Invitations go out today for a sneak preview of the 1940 Chestnut Burr yearbook. Editor Thurman Artz leads the 26th anniversary issue, a larger 236 page volume to be displayed in loose leaf form with films by Henry Beck. Distribution to students follows about May 28.
Freshman Mouse and senior Rodkey received theatre participation awards at the University Theatre formal. Prof. Staump and Prof. Wright presented triangular and cross shaped keys for outstanding freshman and four years service respectively. Over 150 couples danced to Eddie Juenemann's orchestra with Wanda Griffiths team assisting.
Kent State University student senate plans a 7 30 meeting in 201M to finalize plans for a mock state senate session. About thirty five members are expected to attend as Senator H D Byrne guides the group.
The 60 member University concert band led by Prof. Roy D. Metcalf opens National Music Week with a 8 15 p m concert in three sections featuring Bach Wood Weber pieces and Salomone performing Concertino. The program includes A Mayfair Cinderella and Hail To Thee Our Alma Mater.}
Eight men were tapped as members of Blue Key national honorary at the Junior-Senior prom. From over 100 candidates, the seven non graduates include Don Taylor Don Sullivan Henry Beck Joe Michaels and Tom Utter with three graduating seniors Charles Tabler Stewart Fern and Ralph Wands. Plans for the Jones Kelly banquet are being finalized with invitations to alumni.
Lists of approved off campus houses for summer and fall are now in the office of Miss Frances Maisch director of residences. The Merrill hall ground floor corridor near the journalism office houses the reservation list. Room fees for next fall are five dollars and will be applied to rent. refunds require two weeks notice before registration.
Miss Ethel Bowers field secretary of the National Recreation Association will speak at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. today in Room 109M. Her topic is Opportunities in Recreational Leadership. She has written and lectured on recreational opportunities particularly in co recreation. All students especially physical education majors and minors are invited per Prof. G. J. Altmann.
Luther Tucker former Far Eastern Student Services fund executive secretary told an assembly about Chinese students facing extreme hardships seeking education. He opened a campaign to fund National Student Relief committee in China. pledge cards available today and tomorrow at the atrium. Paul Gloss, Kent State YMCA president, directs the drive with several cooperating student organizations.
