Music Celebration Closes Tomorrow With Fifth Concert

Kent State’s National Music Week observance continues with a fifth concert tonight at 8 p.m. in the university auditorium. Ray D. Metcalf conducts the orchestra and Bruce Handley directs the men’s glee club, with John Farinacci and Ora Belle Bachman arranging. The program features senior glee club pieces, Welsh airs, student chorus numbers, Girl’s Glee club selections, and ends with Finlandia by the orchestra.

Faculty Reports Senior Exemption from Final Exams

The senior exemption policy applies to graduates on June 7 1940. Juniors and other seniors keep normal exam duties. June graduates should not be graded after Saturday noon June 1. If a June senior has an exam May 31 he should take it. Except for May 31 exams no further recommendation on finals.

Glen Miller Crowned Collegiate Band King in U S

Glen Miller and his orchestra won the national collegiate music championship defeating 38 rival bands in round after round. The Billboard reported Miller received 251.5 points from 108 judges across 40 states, besting Kay Kyser who tallied 82.5.

Wayne Griffith Launches Bases-Loaded Homer In Kent Victory

Wayne Griffith hit a bases loaded homer in the sixth as Kent beat Wooster 14 to 7 at Severance Stadium. Danny Gulgin allowed eight hits in a strong start, with Kent scoring four in the fourth and adding later runs. Hurlbut later homered for Wooster in the eighth.

Women’s Faculty Professional Club to Meet May 14 Dinner

The Women’s Faculty Professional Club holds its regular meeting at 6 p m on Tuesday May 14 at the Robin Hood. Dinner will be served and speakers include Dr Wilma Garnett Dr Grace Sherrer from the English department Miss Blanche Miller and Miss Susanne Koehler from the training school. An open discussion will follow.

Central Club Committees Elect Student Representatives

Three of five central club committees have elected reps to student council and two joint committees. Bob Leese announced last night that Thora Uebel Beta Gamma junior won a seat on the student council, Rita Allendorf Alpha Omega junior joined the social committee, and Margot Mueller Engleman junior joined the student faculty committee.

Holcombe to Speak at National Education Association Meeting

Ray E. Holcombe instructor in the university department of speech has been invited to speak on recent research in speech teaching at a National Education Association conference in Milwaukee Wisconsin this July. The invitation came from Dr Gladys M Borchers chair of Speech Pedagogy for the National Association of Teachers of Speech.
