Life magazine shows definite interest in covering the Kent Stater seventh annual Rowboat Regatta to be held Saturday afternoon May 17. A 131 word Life telegram asks for details on boats participants costumes and races and offers to supply captions research and color photos.
The SC announced bids for the posts of director or producer of "No Time for Classes" with a May 19 deadline at 3 p.m. at the council office. Applications should include a general concept rather than a full script. A separate funding request by Bob Casey was postponed pending committee review for recognition.
Senior info for June and August graduates encourages visiting the student council office this week between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for schedules and preliminaries. Hank Johnston notes senior week details. allocations committee approved bringing the State of the Union to campus. Ann Demiter joins the elections committee. Bill Lyle’s original appointment was dismissed for council-member eligibility. Arnold Lewis joins the traffic court.
The university Newman club sponsors a spring semi formal dance on Saturday May 10 at the Newton Falls Recreation center. Automatic 2 30 permits will be granted all women from 9 p m to 1 a m. Transportation sign ups available at the ticket table in the Atrium corridor, said Newman President Roy Newsome.
Otter Free Chow urges senior men to pick up free tickets for the annual senior men's banquet at Twin Lakes Country Club on Wednesday May 14 at 6 30 p m. Tickets are obtainable in the office of the dean of men.
In recognition of National Music Week May 4 to May 11 Kent State University music department led by Fred H. Denker sponsors a concert by the University Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Byler and the university choir directed by Caro M. Carapetyan. A. L. Dittmer, assistant professor, presents a voice recital Thursday. All programs start at 8 15 p m with no admission charge.
Most of the cast for the University Theater production Harriet is set for a 7 p.m. tryout in 315K. No leading role has been chosen yet. Open roles Sukey Celestine and Auntie Zeb are available to Negro girls and will be announced at the tryout.
Life magazine interest spurred Kent Stater staff into action for the Rowboat Regatta. Editor Bob Hoyt announced a Rowboat Regatta queen and four attendants to be judged May 8 at 8 p.m. in the university auditorium.
At Marietta College the 56th Ohio Academy of Science meeting elected three KSU faculty members as sectional vice presidents. Ralph W. Dexter was named zoology vice president, J A Herrick was selected for plant sciences, and Raymond E. Manchester became mathematics vice president.
The classic Russian film Alexander Nevsky will be shown today at 4 p.m. and Thursday at 7 p.m. in 317McG. Sponsored by the foreign languages department, the screenings are open to all university students and recount the struggle of Russians led by Prince Alexander Nevsky against Teuton invaders.
